Wow. Something that small and round caused a blockage??? I have several Savannahs and they have eaten and passed much larger things. Is it because it was rubber? Hope he has a speedy recovery.

The broken piece of toy was about 1-1/4" x 1" and fairly flat?
How big a piece can normally go thru a cat intestinal tract?

It's actually pretty large, 1 1/8th" L x 7/8th" W x 1/2" H. I'm sure it had all kinds of calcium attached making it larger and literally thousands of teeth punctures so any time it bent or contorted there was a fresh rubber surface to grip onto the sides of the intestines. It's also the Kong Extreme XXL which has pretty hard rubber and what lasts a pit bull a year, Dooley will trash in a couple weeks.

I'm guessing the small intestine of a large savannah wouldn't be more than 3/4" in diameter and a large male serval's small intestine couldn't be larger than an inch in diameter.

Uh......so what exactly is a safe toy for Dooley to play with? Other than Dino?

That's what I've been asking my pet store who are amazed that he can tear through the large Kongs so quickly. I'm going to see what the vet says and perhaps I can give him some sort of a meaty bone.

Trish and I visited Dooley this evening, he still isn't eating but was getting around fairly well. We had just a short window with him before we got the boot. Can't wait for him to be back home.

Glad to hear he is doing better! I would not give him any more rubber toys... Meaty bones should do it. Does he eat whole prey?
