It's hard to say, it could have been excitement, texture or the allure of down/feathers...

With the feather bed, you could consider getting a waterproof mattress protector for when you bring it back...and see how it goes... chances are this was a combination of everything and she might never have another misstep...hope so!

The waterproof mattress pads are truly a god-send with pets. I recommend you purchase two so that if you need to wash one, the other can be put on the bed immediately. That way the mattress is not left exposed while the laundry runs.

I can't remember if you've said, but do you only have one litterbox? Some cats like to pee in one box and poo in the other. It wouldn't hurt to get a second box if you don't already have two.

Thanks @Patti I actually do have two litter boxes that was the second part of my solution I am pleased to report no more incidents since removing the down and duck feathers. I think we are through the woods

@Brigitte Cowell, thanks for the further inquiry. The first thing I did was introduce her to the litter box. It was shortly after that she attempted to pee in the bed. I caught her, scruffed her, and placed her in the litter again. Ten minutes later in the dark she peed in the bed, and then pooped in the litter box. She was all over the place. There has been no incident today, she is using her box. I made it a point to spend some extra time at home, and her cat tree and several new toys arrived so I played her to exhaustion :D. @ Lesley If I can get a couple of solid weeks of good litter habits, I may try to at least bring back my feather bed

Ok so now months later she is doing fantastic with litter box habits HOWEVER, found out yesterday ( by way of her BM) she is eating the litter. Enough to cause a serious Heath problem. Called the vet they recommended yesterday's news or one like it. So until I go to market today she is under my watchful eye EVERY MOMENT. ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS ISSUE?

You don't mention what kind of litter she is eating?

Eating clay litter can indicate a mineral deficiency I think...but also can be very dangerous especially if the clumping sort of clay litter.

I'd be less concerned about it if it were the wheat or corn litters... I once had a litter of kittens that wanted to eat the wheat litter (Swheat Scoop), so for about a week, I kept spraying the surface of the litter with bitter spray and it broke that habit pretty effectively within a day really.

My last litter of kittens ate the litter, so it is not uncommon...yesterday's news works well and I like Brigitte's suggestion of spraying the surface of the litter...

Litter is called" ultra precious cat premium multi-cat litter,The scoopable that works! Dr. Elseys vet approved quality for cats. has no perfumes or deodorants. Just copied all that right from the bag. So with that said.....cleaned that all out and had the sWheat scoop on hand to start the Tiolet training at some point,so put the sWheat scoop in the litter box. She jumped in and a big taste. So out that went and I had some sand so I used that, when I returned from the pet store I filled her box with yesterday's news. SHE IS TOLERATING IT, but not happy about it. And I can say I am sad for her it doesn't look all that comfortable to use. Kitty had a BM today and half was as hard as a brick and grey and the other regular. So at least I know it is outmoded her system. We will see how she does with the pellets. Never thought of spraying the litter.that certainly would of saved mr from a lot of hoopla.
Just not sure about the yesterday's news, it's harder to distinguish where the deposit has been placed. Guess I'll get more seasoned as time goes by. I must say that kitty has been very happy and playful today, I'm sure it's due to the ridding of the litter she had eaten.

I would not recommend swheat scoop - if you've ever used it before you will notice that when it gets wet it becomes as hard as a rock. There was a kitten a few years ago that ate swheat scoop and died from a ruptured gut because the litter absorbed secretions after being swallowed and expanded inside the poor kitty

Dr Elsey's litter is a clay-based litter...hence the grey poops :-( Cats love clay litters but ingesting it is very dangerous :-(

Pelleted litter like Yesterday's News is a big adjustment but as long as she keeps using the litterbox and doesn't decide she wants to eat the paper pellets, you should find she does much better. Hopefully all the clay in her stomach will work its way out eventually...so glad you worked the problem out before she was really ill!
