I love this!!! When the time comes I'll be making my own as well. I would have never thought of a rocket ship. Very sleek and unique love it! And the log of course in a sucker for rustic things

Just a note Icyuod2, did you ever consider building and selling your cat furniture.... You do an excellent job of it and it would probably be an immediate hit.

You guys are too kind. Thank you. Around these parts they refer to me as MadGyver. :) I do a lot of props and sets for both photography and film and I'm always creating custom items. That being said, these are my first and second attempts at cat furniture and I really wasn't expecting this kind of response. I was inspired by the random pieces of lumber a friend brought by the house (the rocket fins) and of course the bolt of artist canvas my little Bengal (Pandora) loves to climb. Same with the tree stand, found the piece of tree at the end of my road and with it my inspiration. (Btw any fresh cut tree's should be cured/dried for at least a year. I left this tree for 2 months because it was already cured but I soaked it down with a lot of bleach and water) The rocket was an easier build than one might think and I'd be happy to walk any of you through the project that might like to tackle it themselves. (I'm also not apposed to taking on custom projects on your behalf) And if you'd like some help with an idea, I'm a great sounding board to bounce idea's off.
Us cat peeps gotta stick together right? Thanks again guys, your comments have made my day and I do appreciate them all.

Just the spot I was looking for. I have a large back yard that will be securely fenced very shortly. Finally found a way of keeping my critters inside the fence. Anyway I'm looking for outside play structures, as my little guy seems to get bored and starts picking on some of my older cats. I have lots of wild lilac trees which I've put a few shelves inside the branches for hanging out on. I've done a walk around with 4 trees spaced close together. Goes in a spiral upwards, but this does not have any stuff to play with.

After all that reading, I'm looking for some outdoor play structures, something that will challenge and or entertain a 6 month old Savannah Boy.

Ps I wish I had your creative mind in my back yard, I can get you all the wood you need:)) I'm awash in trees:) any ideas would be more than welcome.

What part of the world are you located in? (for those of us who might want to hire your services for a custom job)

When you say securely fenced, do you mean it will be covered as well, or are you going to try the Purrfect Fence?

Very Similar to the perfect fence, same principal. We started with an existing wire fence, probably used to keep large dogs in as the holes in the fence the cats could get through. First we covered that fence with chicken wire to cover the gaps and prevent anyone from digging out under. Next we put on top of that goat fencing, Making it over 6 feet tall, and bent the top, that did not work as my 14 year old boy would climb the fence and reach a paw to the top and yank the bend down and climb over..sigh. So we straightened that out and went looking for the perfect fence attachments. They charge $25-30 for each bend attachment, it would have cost a fortune just in those parts (we have 300 feet of fencing to cover. We made the bent pole out of PVC pipe and elbows to get the angle, drilled holes in the top to string a wire to attach the deer fencing. We are now topping that part with deer fencing so even if they climb the fence they can not climb the angled deer fencing. The hardest part was figuring out how to make those angled poles..so far so good. Now we have a few trees to climb proof with metal flashing. So far our escape artist has not gotten over the finished fencing. She will be sooo pissed when she can't get out..oh well better than being a Coyote meal.

It's been a long haul, 3 years putting this together, the last straw was losing Nikko, still breaks my heart when I think about it:( First and LAST cat I've ever lost to traffic.

Now I just need some play areas inside this structure to keep everyone, especially Blue entertained.

Sounds like you've done an amazing job with the fence!

You can get cat trees to go outside (wood or plastic only obviously, no carpeting) or something like the Little Tykes play centers - they usually hold up really well, and can sometimes be found inexpensively at yard sales or on Craigslist.
