How do other people bring kittens home and just let them loose? That's what I wanna know lol

So my above plan went to poo, Sabriel saw the kittens on the way to her room, she started hissing like crazy which got both kittens hissing back at her. Even down in her room she was hissing at me and acting scared of me. So I ended up bringing her, her "bad" cat food which she's flipping addicted to, she treats it like cat treats. That got her coming to me and let me pet her and such. I think I got her good for now. I went back up to check on the kittens. Nakaia like usual welcomed me back with a purr. Trance hissed at me like crazy when I came near. Even when I washed my hands to get Sabriel smell off my hands she hissed at me. I ended up trying to give them some cat treats, they don't like Sabriel's - and I'm not giving them sausage because of there age. I got Trance to warm back up to me with play. So the way to Sabriel's heart is food, the way to Nakaia's is attention, the way to Trance's is play lol.

Hopefully no one brings home a new kitten and just tosses them all together. You will have to accept that they are going to hiss and spit at each other. Until they work through this phase they will not move on. Just be sure one or the other is restrained/contained by leash or crate or whatever so that no one can be seriously harmed.

I brought Sabriel upstairs again today, the kittens in their kennel still. I tried playing with a feather wand toy with her - and slowly moved it towards the kittens kennel. She played with it some, and sometimes she even looked at them without hissing/growling. But still a lot of hissing/growling. Then I had her in the upstairs play room, where the kittens had been earlier today - she could tell they touched *her* toys.

With the kickaroo man she worked herself into a frenzy attacking that thing..

Twice today she almost attacked me near the kittens, thankfully she didn't, otherwise I wouldn't know how to proceed.

When I bring her back downstairs at times I can hear her making noise. Similar to a growl but not, I don't even know what to call it. At first I thought she was in pain but I think she can just smell the kittens or is thinking of the kittens and doesn't like it at all!

Today the kittens did a lot better, even with her hissing near them they didn't hiss back at her. Trance didn't hiss at me afterwards.

Actually after I came back upstairs from bringing Sabriel downstairs to her room, Nakaia let me give her - her first real belly rub. She laid on her back and everything. So sweet.

Right now I'm a little disheartened. One of the big reasons why I wanted a kitten or two in this case was to give Sabriel a playmate while I'm at work. Even with my having this whole week off I don't think it's going to be enough time.

I don't like that Sabriel is getting all stressed out about this. I love the kittens already, I know Nakaia for sure loves my attention if not me yet lol. Trance has warmed up to me and likes it when I pet her and play with her.

Now I just need to find some way to get them to like each other!

Oh I found out the hard way. Sabriel didn't like it when I played with the wand toy with the kittens. She looked at me like she had been betrayed! Then when I went back to playing with her with it, she attacked it more aggressively and she kept trying to take it from me entirely. Like she was saying "it's mine!". That was the moment in which she almost attacked me. I stopped playing with the wand toy after that as I didn't want to reinforce her behavior by giving her something good...

I called my vet to see if they had any additional advice, the girl I spoke to made it sound like sometimes cats never get along. I so hope that isn't the case here..

Don't get disheartened, you just need to be patient. There are some on this forum who have been working for weeks, even months to get their cats to like each other. It's true that sometimes they just never get along but most times they will at least call a truce, and eventually decide they like each other. Try reading some of the threads about Kilifi and Azidi, or Jengo and Bizley (aka Wiggles).

Yeah Azidi. She is being a little S... Today. Refused to come out to go to the vet. So, I was given some drops to put in her ears for the ear mites. I just went in to try to put them in. It was a blood letting. It is impossible with only 2 hands. This cat cannot be held.I need one or two people to help. It makes me so sad that I cannot be the good dad I need to be and want to be for her. I don't know what to do. I can't scruff her..Takes 2 hands. I can't towel her. Takes 4 hands and is traumatic. I just want to cry.
Chin up Brandy. You will get her calmed. Just be patient.

Sorry to hear that... I hope the Ear Mites are taken care of quickly so that you do not have to go through that... You said a towel won't work, maybe try something larger like a Blanket, or comforter that is much bigger and gives you more insulation against the claws... We have to do what we have to do... Some is very pleasurable, others are not.. Will send some prayers.

It is not so much the size of the towel, it is that I cannot hold her and wrap the towel around her to immobilize her. Unless she is immobilized, I cannot get the drops in the ears. Without the drops, the mites will not go away. She cannot be held with one hand, and cannot be held down any other way. I have tried. Even when I have her, she is impossible to hold still. I need 4 hands.

Cary--have you tried clipping her to essentially scruff her no-handed? Some use binder clips, I bought the clips made for it:

You do have to approach it right. The calmer the cat to start the better. Ziggy got a clue what was going on as he watched me clipping Jax' nails and he was right feisty for a while. Took some time but he did relax and I got all of his nails clipped for the first time.

Many adult cats need two or more clips. It works on 60-80% of cats, maybe more if you approach it right.
