I think it just depends...I have a waiting list already and will not have kittens until July...I also do not take deposits until the kittens are at least 4 weeks old...they change so much, that I hate even doing it that early, however many buyers insist...if someone is very insistent, I may take a deposit earlier...

Bonding depends on the cat. Never met F3 Isis until I hand carried her through the airport and on a plane together and she is still my girl no matter how much time she spends hounding Anubis who gets along famously. Quarantine lasted 2 days which was not long at all to bond but that wasn't required. She is so loving towards people, strangers, and even Ra who does not reciprocate and as likely to push her away with a paw for getting into his space. If you want a kitten just like this, discuss the personality at length with the breeder and get videos.

It depends on the breeder you choose probably. Some breeders produce a lot of kittens so will always have something available...while others don't have them often so you might have to wait. I don't keep a waiting list, but I also rarely have kittens available. I don't like to decide if my kittens are going to be for show or breeding until ~8 weeks of age, and so I don't want a pet buyer to get all attached to find out that kitten is not available to them for example because I wish to keep it to show or place in a program. So I make no promises to anyone until they are old enough to know.

As to whether being on a waiting list means you get first available or the first choice or the first choice after the breeder decides if they want one (breeder almost always has first choice of anything they produce!)... that can also depend on how that breeder keeps their list. And possibly how specific your requirements are.

We got our first Savannah F3 girl Malia in November 2012 and our second F3 girl Rose in Feb 2013. This gave us plenty of bonding time with each one. (I really wanted an F1) but We chose F3's because we have a young son and we wanted a Savannah that would bond with all of us. Both Malia and Rose will choose our son over us every time but if he is not there or otherwise busy I have Malia and my husband has Rose his lover girl (she likes to lick him a lot) .:in love: and then we switch. lol

We were not on a wait list but we did have to wait until they were old enough to come home to us. FYI, very hard to get through that waiting period!!!!!! But so worth it.:big grin:

Maybe I should get on a list now! haha ;) I probably have another year or so (hopefully less though) until I get my kitten. =) Or at least until I start looking. I want to know what to look for and find good breeders, too. I was told there's another area in this chat that I should look at when looking for savannahs. Any certain breeders you guys would recommend? Are we allowed to do that in the forum? haha. I have found general ones by doing a search online, but so far, the "myths" that I had about savannahs that have been debunked in this forum came from those sites, so now I'm not sure. haha.

I really really really appreciate all of this feedback, by the way!! You guys are awesome! ;)

Awesome! I will have to check them out! =) Lookin' at maybe going close so that I don't have to fly them. Or close-ish at least. =P Thanks for those! I'm so excited. And now even my boyfriend is jumping on board. I was going to get one savannah and one domestic cat to be buddies, but now my boyfriend is starting to really like snow savannahas. So we might get one regular savannah and one snow if we can find one. =P I've seen a few, but they definitely seem a little harder to find.

Wolvie, I was on the waiting list twice for my F3 brothers. The breeder let me know when there would be litters available and what position I was in line for the particular gender. Then I received pictures of the available choices at the time of the first cat. I was able to ask about traits for the choices presented. I was offered the option to come see the kitten, as the breeder is only a hour or so away. This was for the first F3 boy.
For the second F3, I inquired if I could have a full brother. It so happened a litter was on the way and I had first choice of a male. There was only one male, and Mayhem had a home from the word go. The breeder sent me a newborn picture when I was in London on vacation.
I could have declined at any point and waited for another choice. Talk to the breeder and ask how they handle selections.
