He is home! Eating, drinking and playing. He slept all night on his warm disc thanks to info from here. We are trying to take it slow but no one wants to leave him alone......but we are....sigh. But he is there napping behind that door, still hard to believe

It has been a very nice week. George, Yes the kids say George for sure, has setteled in wonderfully and had a great week. He has been to the vet, gone to school every day to pick up the kids, been out in his ferret jacket for a walk in the grass and playing at the play ground. I swear he grows every night, he was eating 1 1/2 small cans of food when he arrived, now he is eating 3 a day. He may have met his match with our families energy level at least for a few months, he has learned to sleep like the dead when I put him up for naps, no amount of chaos even causes an ear flick now. Yesterday before school he was tired and lay in a chair with Joseph and they played dolls for about 20 minutes until I put him up, He wore hats and helped do hair I have to try to get pictures of that. I get lots of purrs, and I am his home base when he gets worried about something when he can't see me he chirps and then comes running when I chirp back. He seems very bemused by the comings and goings around here, often just sitting in the midst of everything trying to decide what to do next. He really wanted to get the vacum cleaner but ultimatly decided maybe it was still too big until he found it in the cleaning closet, he told it who was in charge then! The dog is getting drive byes (or dive byes if she is lying by a chair) Her tail is irriestable but so far he is keeping clear of the head, except for scary halloween kitty at her if she looks at him. I was reading in the new kitten magazine about exposing and socializing kittens as much as possible before 14 weeks to as much as you can ( in health bounds of course) how they become so much calmer about new things later in their lives if they have the early exposure. I knew it was important with an F1 for sure but I am really grateful to be able to do it with George, he is really totally different than even a week ago.

Cindy, can you post something here about how you are socializing George? I think it would be helpful for others.

I am taking cues from reading about other owners and the rescue group info as well as bringing in socialization stuff from raising psyco malinois' and truthfully some I learned from what I read and put into practice with my childrens adoptions.

His body language shows when to push him a little out of his comfort zone and when to let him go back to a safe place. Right now he is learning to trust me, I'm base, if he is scared come to me, I won't let anything hurt him, But I am also the authority I pick him up, touch him everywhere, lovingly, I didn't push this too hard ever but never allowed him to fight me and escape. Now he comes and asks to be picked up and will lie for a short time on his back and get his cheeks rubbed, but upright he gets carried room to room putting the kids to bed. He gets a kiss and a good night from everyone and seems to enjoy it. I am very impressed with his progress allowing us to be in his space. Things around here are loud a lot, for a few days this seemed to stress him so I made sure his door to his room was closed often enough for him to really sleep, eat and use the litter box in quiet. We spend a lot of time playing early and late in the day before things are rolling and loud. He goes everywhere it is safe to go with us. A carrier to the van and then a large carrier he can really see out of hooked into a car seat. My car line time is 2 hours between the 2 schools so he gets out and plays in the van as well (there is a kitty litter box which he uses) He tolerated a small harness very well after a few days so he has been out on a leash 2 times and really done amazing. I take him out in the carrier and then lift him out to the ground. I feel he is too young to be put in situations I can not control completley so no trips to Petsmart or where I have to depend on other people being in control of their animals. In a few weeks if he is still progressing well I will take him to visit the kids classrooms. I want our bond to be really good so he trusts I wouldn't put him in harms way and I need to know I can predict how he will react if he gets really scared.

I love the chance to work with him so young, but I am very cautious not to expose him to areas where there may have been or are other cats, his immunity is still developing. I will trim his nails this weekend but I don't think I want to bath him, he does show intrest in the shower on his own, I just don't know about the bath part...I guess I will play it by ear. Sorry I guess I wrote a book I will update things as we go

This was a match made in heaven I am glad George is getting along so well. He couldn't have asked for a better family.
