Like was terrorizing the cloth shopping bags until one latched on to him. He sprinted around trying to shake it. Was quite the sight to see. Had us rolling laughing. Almost as much as when he squeezed into the box from a 12 pack of coke, head and front legs out of one end and rump and rear legs out of the other side.

We also had a repair guy out for the dish washer. Loki quietly moved in to supervise. When the guy saw him on the counter his eyes bulged and he froze. All he could say was "Am I ok here"? I said don't move!!! Don't look him in the eye. I know his heart rate jumped, but I let him off the hook pretty quickly.

Thanks for the enthusiastic response. Calvin's breeder was Arden from Camelattaspots and yes his coat is nonstandard, which he got from his dad.

The photographer was enthralled with his eye color and I think it really came out in the second photo. I would like to have some photos taken with her at home where my guys are more relaxed.

Aside from the ear tufts, what is non-standard with his coat? Loki has the gold glitter in his in the sunlight, which I understand isn't typical, but I don't see it as non-standard.

F2 Moose Growing Up Fast! He will be a year old in a few weeks. Hovering around 25lbs right now, we couldn't have asked for a better big little brother to the F4 and F5. Loves to sleep with all four paws in the air and does a leash. He started to really loose his baby black fuzzies fur around 10 months, is that normal for an F2? Also, will he continue to grow?

View attachment 20737 good size comparison. On the far right, our F5 and center F4 were already in the window. They are about 12-13lbs. Moose was begging to get up there so I gave him a lift, however he had to duck down to fit!

I think duration of growth cycle varies from cat to cat. Seems like f1 and f2 have most of their frame growth in 20-24 months, and then fill-out at about 30-36 months. F3 and up seem to finish a little sooner. Loki was 21# at 12 months and topped out at 27-28 at 24-30 months. No real additional gains at 48 months. Some seem to top off at 18 months, but a few of the monsters keep on going.

At 25# through 12 months I would expect another 25% growth before he's done - and only a few ever hit 30#!! I think John collected some details for a while, but no trend was consistent. It's a genetic lottery, kind of like a box of chocolates - see quite a few F1 and F2 under 20#, and seems only about 10-15% exceed the 30# mark.

For what's it's worth, Loki has been on raw diet from 12 weeks and I think it helped him develop to his full potential. We keep good kibble available at all times, but he only picks at it waiting for raw. He still devours raw chicken like its his last meal, though.

Doing a quick check in The Savannah Cat Book by Lorre Smith, she says in the coat section:

• Short to medium in length with good substance and a slightly course feel to it... The coat is not inordinately dense and lies relatively flat against the body.

Calvin's coat is longs and thick and does not lay down especially during the winter. it sticks pretty much straight out.
It was cute, we had an ice storm last week and he was the only cat that would stay out and play with the ice on the pampas grass. The other two wanted to come right back in to the house. That coat is good for something.

Calvin may be a bit shaggier than other cats but he is not long haired. The fact that his coat 'sticks out' suggests that it has some coarseness to it. Looking at his pics, I think his coat falls within the standard. My F1 with a Maine Coon mother is shaggy like that but she still meets the standard.

I agree Cathouse.... without feeding him raw, I can't see how he would possibly get as much protein or even stay full for that matter. To me it would be almost comical to feed him just wet food and expect him to grow that large. He also has been on raw since at least when we got him around 12 weeks. He eats about half pound raw in the morning and then again at night just to keep him from starving.

Maybe some of the very large cats come from the same lines? I have the pedigree for him, would the size likely come from F1 side?

I'll defer to your expertise. My take was that due to his coat not laying flat, he would be considered not standard.

It is not too important to me either way. He is a total love bug, even when he is hogging most of the bed and snoring. I am hoping to have some additional photos taken in the spring and see if I can get similar shot for all my guys.
