Its true, these things are expensive and you do not know whether or not its worth all this money. Is this just a high strung kitty that will always be that way. So in essence is it better just to deal with their energy in play or such. My friend has tried it all, the money she has spent is ridiculous. Even was given the calm diet by science diet that was prescribed and she said she really didnt notice any difference. These cats are naturally high strung, with lots of energy. And it can get expensive. The calm diet food is almost 60$ a bag, and that can get costly. Of course we want to do the best but Im thinking a lot of this stuff can really add up. But what would they give the cat to help ease them nerves..? Im hoping to get my kitten soon but when I see what my friend is going through, I feel terrible for her, and she spends so much money.

There is a world of difference between high energy and nervous.
If you read the thread savannah kitten behavior, it chronicles my journey with Jarvis.

Jarvis is 19 pounds of anxiety. Some humans are anxious, and some cats are too. For him, the diffusers help take the edge off his anxiety, one on one time helps, and knowing that I will come fix what is frightening him helps him.

You may very well not need to try feilaway or another product; two of my three are happy, well adjusted kitties.

Jarvis takes more effort, and needs more from me. Could I remove the feilaway? Yes, but he does get more nervous and jumpy. I choose to have him happier, more relaxed, and feeling more secure. If that costs $150 a month, so be it.

Exactly, you have to figure out whether its high energy or nervousness. Is he jumpy or what does he do that shows its nervousness rather than purely being a hyper, high energy cat. I agree though, you need to do whatever it takes to keep them happy and adjusted and if it means $150 a month then you are right, so be it. Jarvis is just one of those cats, Ive never had one myself, but my friend does. I think determining the issue is the first thing, then go from there.

Eddies

We started the Feliway for Mojo n Eddie "arguing" then slowly weaned all but the 1 room they argue the most in...it still has a Feliway in it...Eddies "coming of age" started it & although it has calmed since then occasionally he still gets on Mojos nerves & once Mojos had enough he kicks every ones butt but his slaves!!!! The vet said it's because Mojo n Tigger spoiled Eddie too long before deciding he was too old to treat like a kitten (Eddies neutering did not help at all)... & Eddie didn't like that at all, lol.

LOL. its not funny but these cats make me laugh, that they decide what they should do. Such strong personalities. And that was one of my questions. Can you wean them off or is it something that is a permanent situation.

It's not whether you can wean them off, it's deciding if you want to...I decided to keep the Feliway in the one room that sparks the most arguments because it's also the family room & 2 SVs fighting is not relaxing in the least, especially once Eiswein wants to jump into the fray & he doesn't care who gets in the way...it's ALL NAILS, TEETH, FUR & GROWLS from there.

We used Feliway for the first few months. Now it's used only when we leave on trips and Sasha is home alone. I don't know if it works or not, it's more for me than for him !!!

Who knows, really! My friend, has tried it all. Even had her kitten on the Calm diet by Science diet, and she saw no difference. Tried the comfort zone, the feliway, the bach rescue drops, the calming treats which her cat would not touch. Well she tried to eat one of the brands but they seemed gummy, and so she walked away from them. Tried some other ones, she smelled them and ran in the other direction. So she told the vet not to reorder the food, and shes done with the bag, and Athena is still the same. She ran out of bach rescue drops, Athena is the same. Now the diffusers are still going since they say they last a month. One has been going for a week, and its half done, the other one is still full??????? So strange. She has two going, Athena is still edgy. Shes at her wits end. And this kitten couldnt be in a more loving and safe home. She also met and spoke with an animal behaviourist. Everyone is coming to the same conclusion. Lack of love, touch, care, perhaps locked in a cage during her first few weeks of life. Now she is trying to repair the damage. Not a simple thing.
