fibrosis of the liver

Blood test results came in. Liver enzymes are elevated even more. Prednisone does not seem to be working. Still waiting on the zinc and iron smears.

In the meanwhile, we brought her back to the regular vet for the start of a weekly B12 shot for the next 6 weeks. Also gave her a shot of B complex and sub-Q fluids. Started her on Cyproheptadine for appetite as the Mirtazapine was not working. Reduced the prednisone to 5 mg per day.

Please pray for her!

I'm so sorry to hear this Linda, I am praying for Rafiki, and for your vets that they find the proper treatment for her!

Copper smear came back negative. :( Still waiting on the zinc.

Started her on Denamarin this morning. I had no idea that it was simply SAM-e and Milk Thistle in a small cat-sized tablet. So much easier than dealing with SAM-e horse pills and Milk Thistle powder!

We will begin her on a weekly B12 shot treatment for 6 weeks. In one of my many internet searches, I found a link between smooth tongue and vitamin b-12 deficiency. B-12 levels are usually lacking in cats with liver disease so this should help.

My DSH, Cisco, was on Denamarin and it really helped him...he had liver and pancreas issues...fingers crossed that it and B-12 helps!
