Final Size and Weight Projections

"The smallest SV F1 males", according to his breeder's website supposedly come in at about 16 front shoulder, 17 pounds and 22 chest to rump. I don't think that Louie is going to make that, unfortunately.

I think he can make 17 pounds eventually if he's 14lbs at 10 months of age.

I personally think any breeder that gives firm ranges for their kittens' projected final heights and weights is suspect. There's simply too much variation...especially with early generations where they could inherit size from the domestic OR the Serval.... And any breeder that gives a "guarantee" I'd read the fine print on, LOL!

I remember the Ashera cat came with a size guarantee, but you had to keep the cat for four years then could go on a wait list for another available one. Assuming you could track down Simon Brodie by that time ;-)

I agree. That would be a reasonable guess based on my F3's growth to maturity.

ZERO chance of hunting him down!

Yuki and Yeti are small and I have more scratches on me now than I had my entire previous life. I'd hate to image the damage if it were done out of dislike or anger!

When I see my doctor tonight for a checkup he's going to be convinced I got mauled at the zoo. :big grin:

Give Louie a chin rub for me. You avatar picture of him is awesome.

Thanks. I love him like a son. Although I compared him to Gary Cooper in another thread, he would be more accurately comparable to Jimmy Cagney. You might remember the scene from White Heat, where he says to the guy he has locked in the trunk of his car, "So you want some air? I'll give you some air...........", whereupon he shoots the trunk full of bullet holes, killing the captive in the process.

I was given the opportunity for a "trade in" some months ago. There was no way on gods' green earth that I could do that.

Oh no... I'd never be able to do that either! I think many get their first Savannah hoping for that "size" thing but the personality of the cat makes up for any shortfall (pun intended). I think we expected our first SV, an F2 male, to be huge and he never got more than 13-14lbs..it just didn't matter once we had him :)

Thanks for your frankness. That's what I have been fearing for the last 4 months. I'm afraid you're right.

I'm still gonna keep calling him "Big Lou", though.:)
Trust me when I tell you there was nothing frank about my comment, I am no where near knowledgable enough to give any advice to you. I was simply trying to steal your cat because I think he is a very handsome guy all around.

We got Rafiki in spite of that "size thing". Poor hubby didnt want "the large wild animal" terrorizing his cat. Last weekend I overheard him talking to Rafiki and telling her that if she grows big, that's OK with him! Wow. What a change! The savannah personality is just incredible - she has him totally wrapped around her paw! For better or worse, she won't be big....she is only about 9-1/2 lbs at 8 months. But that's OK too.

I have to admit I have the whole size thing going (hehehehehe) but I agree its all about the personality. If I want to admire an animal from afar I will tune into Discovery channel. Yes, Loki is large and we love that, but we would not be happy if he was a mischievous, high energy, vocal, on the counters, food stealing, and into everything kind of cat. Oops, that's a perfect description. Just joking, but if his personality wasn't as great as it is we would be disappointed. If he was not as big we would still love him.
On a aside note, at 11 months he can (and will) reach half way to the backsplash when he stands at the counter. Guessing he thinks he isn't on the counter so he isn't breaking any rules. No more leaving food unattended, hahahha! We discovered he likes curly fries and taco shells (different nights) but it impacted the litter box significantly for a few days.
Gotta love them!

And calling him "Loki" wasn't just begging for trouble, huh? Sounds like he simply must live up to his name!
