I am a firm believer in if you don't need it, don't use it. All those mentioned are safe but still they are chemicals. If you have a flea issue in your area, then use it but if not, use it once in a while, or when you see him scratch. I will go for months without issues. Fleas are very seasonal unless you have them in your carpet or a lot of stray cats.

Good point! It is a pesticide. The reason I did use Revolution was because my dogs had some fleas in April after they brought home a gofer! My vet recommended a treatment every two weeks for 4 treatments, would have cost me $600. I did one treatment 3 weeks later they started to return so did it again. Now they have been gone. I did one treatment on my cats but never did find a flea on them so didn't do It again.

I have not heard of Vectra? What is it?

It's a topical medication similar to all the others, but since we live in Southern California our vet has said the fleas out here have developed a lot of immunities to a lot of the more popular medications, so he recommended it. I'm not sure if it treats anything other than fleas though. We just go for quick walks in our condo complex, and to the store every once in a while. Here's the website if you want to check it out, and ask your vet about it: http://www.vectrapet.com/cat

Revolution was first recommended by my breeder, but when I would apply it she wouldn't eat or drink all day and it would literally knock her out for 8 hrs. If she did get up I could tell she wasn't herself. When I talked it over with her vet they switched her to advantage. They felt comfortable doing so since they say we don't have a heart worm problem here in calif like other areas do. Now I'm wondering if she even needs that. I walk her on cement and small pebbles, she dies not come in contact with other pets or grass. Her private grass is in the living room. Does she really need this toxic application monthly? Please comment. Thanks

I guess it depends on how close to the beach and sand you are. When I lived in Venice and Santa Monica, I had problems with fleas. I have not seen a single flea since I moved to the canyon area over 15 years ago.
