Food help please...

Lots of different opinions on nutrition for SVs. But the reality is that any high quality food will suit them fine if they eat it. My F3 girl is very partial to any high quality dry food, but she loves chicken and turkey as a treat.

wow im glad i found this. would it be ok for a f3 savannah to be feed evo turkey and chicken dry and mix with chicken liver, hearts? The breeder i got my cats from only feed them evo products.

Be careful with the liver as you can over do it. About 1 chicken liver a day for 10lbs of cat should be the max. The chicken hearts shouldn't be an issue, although I probably wouldn't exceed twice the quantity of livers.

John is right. Liver contains high amounts of vitamin A and C that can potentially be toxic. Liver is extremely nutritious however, the problem is that the amount varies from animal to animal. I don't know enough about cats since I only studied human nutrition in college, so I will probably steer clear of liver until I learn more.

Fun Fact: If you are ever stranded in the Arctics and kill a polar bear for food, don't eat his liver. It is the only animal on the planet to my knowledge that if you eat it's liver, you will die from vitamin A toxicity.

Liver is also one of those things where your cat might have an aversion to. Too much mixed in with their chow and it's not only a bad thing, but they might decide they don't want to eat it at all. Start small, such as 5% of the muscle meat weight and don't exceed 10%.

It's actually quite odd as I remember growing up that our cats would leave different portions of the body or entrails of the half eaten mice they laid the wood on. I guess it was some of my first biology lessons and I thought it was pretty gross. Now they have me trained to grind up pounds of organs without even thinking about it.

If you go with a canned, keep the fish to a minimum and feed the majority chicken, turkey, or beef. I'm unimpressed by the Solid Gold Indigo food.

Canned all meat options: Evo 95%; Merricks Before Grain; Wellness 95%; Wysong's Archetype. The first post here http://www.savannahcatchat.com/threads/commercial-cat-food-healthy-recommendations.893/ contains a chart with pros and cons of various canned foods.

Shoot I just ordered should I cancel?

I poured over all the charts on here (there are a few) and just got confused but thought I was choosing well. I guess I should have followed the advise of the breeder and not changed.

Canceling the order is up to you. Choosing a food can be confusing. This link is what I consider to be the bible of cat nutrition. If you scroll down the page to "Learn how to read a pet food ingredient label" it will provide you info to make food choices that you are comfortable with. Sorry to provide even more reading, but I really think this is a comprehensive source of info http://www.catinfo.org

I got the solid gold but switched the wet to poultry rather than fish. It was either that or Blue Buffalo. Hopefully I didn't do bad.
