Here is a good motto...

Care more, than others think is wise.
Risk more, than others think is safe.
Dream more, than others think is practical.
Expect more, than others think is possible.

Many of us know success was not built on success, but on failure! When you fail, get up and try again.

There would have to be some success out there, or F1s wouldn't exist at all

I think you misunderstood my post maybe, I didn't say that F1s didn't happen, just that there are not a lot of HP F1s out there. Even producing 50% F1s there are many many programs that didn't succeed. The breeders that you see producing F1s right now most definitely aren't the only breeders that got a Serval and tried to produce F1s! LOL!

Hence the reason that people have commented on this subject. Nobody is trying to be needlessly pessimistic, and I do hope that your luck holds...F1s are very cool creatures for the right home :)

Looking forward to my future F1, should be a cool Savannah to add to our home.

Anyone has any comparison advice please post it, thanks.

Yes looking for Savannah owners who have experience with both generations to give their opinions on what they find different.

Also does an F1 require a raw diet? Or can they be healthy on dry only? Curious of what is best.

I don't believe they require a raw diet. I've had F1s that preferred kibble..but kibble is out of my general household now because of my 12 year old kitty with kidney failure. But Missy (53% F1) eats mainly canned food and Nina (62.5% F1) eats either raw or canned depending on her mood that mealtime...

What is best you will find opinions differing. Some people are uncomfortable feeding raw and so will find reasons why it is bad...and then there are some raw diet advocates who think any processed food is poison. And a lot of us that span the middle. I like mine to eat canned as well as raw as when traveling it certainly is more convenient...and I did once have a difficult time when a vet hospital didn't want to feed my cat raw when having to stay overnight there...so having them eat both just works better.

That's good to know that I have choices of what to feed an F1, thanks.

Another question, how do you determine the percentage on an F1? Is there a calculation to come up with those numbers. I know that might sound like a dumb question, but I don't know.

Yes, you can take a pedigree and figure out the theoretical %...of course beyond the first Serval-domestic cross it is theoretical only as the split of DNA will be varying degrees of Serval and domestic beyond that first cross. So you take the Serval (100%) and domestic (0%) and the resultant F1 is 50% Serval. Cross that F1 to a domestic (0%) and that makes F2 progeny at 25% Serval ((50+0)/2 = 25)... and so on. When you use a Savannah with the Serval then you add in that %. So my Nina for example, her mom is an F2A and from examining her pedigree she is 25%...add that to the Serval = 125% and then divide by 2 and Nina is theoretically 62.5% Serval at F1.

Thanks, now I understand. Great explanation!

Glad to hear the F1 doesn't do much damage to a home, since our house is gorgeous.
yeh, my F1 hasn't done any damage to my home. He's too busy chowing down, sleeping and peeing in his pee boxes. He does have plenty of toys, which probably helps. He does toe bite me at 5am, but a lot of this is initiated by his F2 bro! My F2 is mr nice guy, but mr instigator behind the scenes. Then he blames his younger F1 bro I'm quite sure... dj
