yeh, my F1 hasn't done any damage to my home. He's too busy chowing down, sleeping and peeing in his pee boxes. He does have plenty of toys, which probably helps. He does toe bite me at 5am, but a lot of this is initiated by his F2 bro! My F2 is mr nice guy, but mr instigator behind the scenes. Then he blames his younger F1 bro I'm quite sure... dj

When my husband went to Arizona to pick up Triton, he stayed 2 nights at the breeder's ranch, which was an experience of a lifetime! He got to spend time with a 7 month old Serval, which he was in total awe of. He has wanted a Serval for a long time, but they aren't allowed in Ohio as pets. If we still lived in Michigan, I'm sure he'd have one. Such gorgeous creatures! The pictures he took were phenomenal! I only wish that I could have gone with him, and experienced it myself. Thanks, my breeder is lucky! That Serval kitten is so sweet. Was happy I was able to go over and meet the kitten and all the other Servals. They were gentle cats, with curious minds. I could really see where the Savannah traits originated from. See much of the same behaviours in Mystique. One of the Servals came and played with my toes. When she got bored with that, she came and sat on my lap and tried to get my cell phone. She probably wanted to know why I was clicking pictures of her and the other Servals and the kitten. Smart animals, for sure! They all played toss with stuffy toys, and when they jumped you could hear the muscles thump when they hit the floor. Quite an experience.
The thought went through my mind to own a Serval, but with the full time requirements and having a baby. I think it is best to stay with Savannah's. but Servals are such gorgeous cats! Can see where Savannah's get their beautiful qualities from.

I think we all must remember that as much as serval kittens are cute and cuddly as kittens, they are still exotic animals and for the most part, do not make the best house pets. There are people who will disagree, but i have seen many, many servals dumped because once they reached maturity, they changed...it is an ongoing theme we all see repeated over and over again.
I agree that servals are beautiful, wonderful animals and have friends with servals. But I would never have one as a pet.
I would prefer to keep the serval talk on this forum to a minimum please, since this is a savannah forum.
Don't get me wrong - I love them! But a friend of mine who breeds f1's and has servals, gets upset when they are portrayed as good house pets...and it is mainly because they do change as they mature...
It is the kitten pictures though, that draw people to them...they see this adorable serval kitten and want one...many people do not do the research and are impulsive...then a year later, their little baby begins maturing and up for sale he/she goes or on CL or other places...it is very sad as Servals bond so tightly with their owner
I commend you on realizing the serval for the wonderful exotic animal he/she is and for being realistic about it.
