Generation Question?

Well, you are getting a mixed heritage cat, not so much a breed of cat. These kittens are not being bred to be Savannahs as much as some cool sort of hybrid kitty with an undefined "wild" look. And there's not really much wrong with that unless you really want a Savannah, so one with the looks and temperament of that particular breed. There is a reason we call something a breed, because it has been bred with an aim in mind. And it is more likely to come with those traits...in this kitten's case it might inherit more characteristics from any of the many breeds in its heritage (Savannah, Chausie, Pixiebob, probably Bengal too), so make sure you research all to know what range you might expect... I do think all those named breeds are cool in their own way

No i don't think you are missing anything...they seem very upfront on their website...it is all the "wild" verbiage that drives me crazy...

Seems like they are kinda doing their own thing there. But really, there is no such thing as an F2.5 LOL The code tells you how many generations the cat is away from the first cross to the species cat, so regardless of what stud she used, if the kittens are registered as Savannahs, they are 3 generations from the Serval, hence F3A... with the "A" indicating that one of the parents is not a Savannah.

I was kind of drawn to the fact that they were doing their own thing with the type of cats they were producing . I like the idea of a mixed heritage kitten; at least to try for my first time around. I think that if I ever decide to get another cat, I may really look into the Savannah 'breed'. Plus, they price ranged worked for me as well . Thanks, Brigitte for your helpful post, by the way!

Just curious if you got the kitten. I have been talking with the same breeder about a kitten. I realize it is a mixed heritage kitten but I am also not looking to show or breed just for a pet. She has been very upfront that the cats will not have papers etc.

Yes, we got the kitten about 2 weeks ago! The father is Goat and the mother is Bellisima. She was very upfront with us as well, about the kittens not having papers because the father is a Chausie

That's not entirely true...the cats CAN have papers no matter what breed was used as outcross. After all, we had to outcross to F5 generation long ago to get SV males to breed to our females.

Just the papers will reflect the fact that the parents are not the same breed, and the registration code given will also reflect that. The breeder would have to choose whether the kittens were registered as outcrossed Chausies or outcrossed Savannahs also in this case...

I was just reading this old post I started and have since learned a few things about my f3A, Mikono. **note: he is now 14 months old and doing well!**.

His father is a fertile F3 Chausie who's mother was a 25% Jungle Cat who bred with an American Bobtail. Mikono's mother is an F2A(??) SV. Her mother an F1 and her father an Ocicat. So, as you can see, he is quite the mixture.
