Getting a foster baby tonight

Be patient and he will all of a sudden eat it. It's funny but one day bang they just go to town. Because he was sick he probably isn't developing as quickly as a normal kitten so it might be another week before. Trust me they will all of a sudden start eating.

Thanks...working at the vet they had me thinking he need to wean...NOW! I am going away on Friday-Wednesday. He is staying with a vet tech so I am hoping she will wean him for me. She took a litter in and they all just found their homes so at least she has done it before.

Six weeks is still young to expect a kitten to wean - I have had some kittens hold out until 8-9 weeks old. What kind of solids are you trying to give him? I was recommended Authority kitten chicken and liver to wean and it actually was the first wet I could get Kimi to eat. I also gave her stage I chicken baby food (no onions or garlic) and ground raw chicken. Kimi definitely went for the raw, the others I had to put on her tongue to get her to eat. Usually after a few times putting it in her mouth she would start licking it off my fingers, then eventually she started eating from the bowl. I think she was eight or nine weeks old before she was eating solids consistently.

I am giving him a variety of different brands/flavours. I mix it with whatever Tiger is eating because the can is already opened. He is eating primarily Wellness canned, and a little bit of Nature's Variety. I haven't tried any raw with him yet, although he is interested in Zeddie's when she eats. I bought baby chicken food, but he showed no interest in it (I think it is bad now)

I mixed his food and put it in his dish, and offered it to him. He wanted nothing to do with it so I poured it into his bottle and he gobbled it up.

Did you give Kimi straight up canned food, with no formula in it? And offer her the bottle at meal times?

The staff at the vet said to stop giving him bottles and just offer him food in a dish, but he starves himself :(

People tell me they brought their kittens home at 6 weeks and I am like "how?!!!?" This little fart is no where near ready to leave

He will come around Kristin. Not all cats grow up at the same rate. Thor is not a Savannah, Savannahs are advanced. Thor is not retarded, for sure, but being used to an SV, maybe you are running a little ahead of where he is. You are doing fine! :)

How about if you dip your finger in and offer it up to him lick? That may be an intermediate step between bottle and bowl. I am thinking that it has absolutely nothing to do with the food - he refuses to give up the interaction with you.

That is what I am thinking. He adores Kristin.

I dipped my finger in, and he licked it off. I also shoved his face in and make him super mad hahaha. Its not that I am expecting him to grow faster, it is what the vet staff are telling me. But I am willing to ease up and let him take his time.

Unfortunately last year my friend fostered a lil tabby babe named Mowgli. She got overwhelmed when he was about 6 weeks and sent him to a different foster home...and he died :( The foster home didn't bottle feed him at all and let him starve, then said he "didn't have the will to live". This is the main reason I took Thor, as he would have ended up in the foster home...and dead. When I took him in he was in rough shape as it was.

I think Thor is falling in love with my dad hahahaha it is the best thing ever. He is napping with him right now.

Sometimes I think Thor is an honorary Savannah. He started shredding TP today...he is a complete monkey. And a manipulator. And a heart stealer. Darn cats...
