Giardia

Niels

The breeder already knows he had giardia from the day he had it.

I will see her soon again for some papers.

No clue paige,
I didn't get a list of all the things they tested.
Before i did the pills for gardia his stools were mostly bad sometimes good.
Now the stools are mostly good and sometimes bad but not very bad.

Maybe ask the vet for a list of what has been tested for and how. For example, did they diagnose the giardia via a SNAP test, via a fecal float and looking down the microscope... or via a PCR test.

It is definitely frustrating to think you are spending a lot of money and getting nowhere. That is why it is best to make sure you have done some research so that you can help direct your vets. We encourage ourselves as humans to be proactive with our health and ask our doctors questions, it is the same with our vets. We should know what is a good idea and what is a waste of our time and money...

Niels..has he been tested for TF (TriTrich)?

Oke i waited a while and putted him back on his old food but it didn't got better.

Today i talked with the vet and i'm gonna take some samples again.
Maybe he got infected with giardia again.

The first test also didn't include the tritrich so we also going to test that now.

Niels, please read the posts on TF (Tritrichomosis Foetus). I posted a picture of the cow pie stool. The stools also have a very foul odor. TF is often misdiagnosed as Giardia. There is also a link to Jodi Gookin from North Carolina State University Vet School regarding TF. The posts can be found in the health issue section. Sue

The tritrichamonas was negative
Also the giardia was negative.

Now they found the same bacteria again that they found the first time.
The second time they didn't find it.

It's camylobacter he get 3 weeks stomorgyl for it now.

The vet told me that most cats that get raw gets this bacteria.
She says most cats are resistant to it but themba seems to be pretty sensitive about it.

This makes me wondering if i still should put themba on raw or not.

Lately he didn't got much raw, Mostly cooked chicken and wet food.
I also provide kibble but i wonder if he eats much of it, I don't see him much eating from it.

I think all cats can get Campylobacter whether on raw or not...although it IS found on chicken so if it is raw chicken you are feeding then yes it might be a problem for your kitten.

BUT, to say that "most" cats that eat raw get this, is simply not true! I've not ever had a cat test positive for it and my cats all eat raw.

Yes he got chicken and other raw.

Now he didn't had raw for a few weeks and he only likes the chicken.
Before he liked all.

The vet ment that most stray cats would have camp from the food they catch.
But most of them would not be bothered by it.

Any advice what to do with the raw food ?
leave chicken and the one day chicks out ?
No raw at all ?
or just try again and hope its better.

Camphlobachtor is wretched, but fortunately not difficult to cure! Typically it is treated with Doxycycline for 7-10 days. What is Stomorgyl? Is it also a Tetracycline based antibiotic? Three weeks of treatment seems very laborious to me as compared to just 10 days of Doxy... Do you know why your vet selected this medication for your boy? Not saying it is wrong, mind you...just curious and wanting to know the rationale behind it. :)

Oops... a bit more info for you.

Raw food ( in and of itself) is NOT the issue. I fed my entire cattery raw food for 8-years. Unfortunately, I had to move state for a family medical emergency a few years back and until we could get relocated properly, I had to rent a building in the country to house my cats. Unbeknownst to me, the electrical power was very unreliable at that location and "brown outs" were common. Apparently the power went off during the height of the Summer causing all of the frozen chicken in my freezer (400 pounds) to spoil. By the time I went out to the building however, the freezer was working fine and it was NOT apparent that the power had been off...so I fed them the chicken...and continued feeding them the chicken daily, completely unaware that it was spoiled...

The cats all started getting loose stools and although I medicated with the usual stuff (metronidazole, Albon and Panacur) nothing seemed to help until my vet and i finally received a lab report back indicating Camphlobachtor...and were finally able to treat them and clear up the issue. It was terrible and affected my entire cattery!

My point is that it is not the chicken alone that is causing this gastro issue, but rather it is caused when an animal eats contaminated meat. It may not have anything at all to do with what you give them if they are trash diggers, etc. When it comes to raw food, one does need to exercise caution, but a case of Camphlobachter is no cause to discontinue feeding raw, if your boy is doing well on it.

Hope this helps.

Nope,

I know nothing about it.

I think the vet only knows about this one.
It has a very strong taste and i had a difficulty with giving in to themba.
If i wrap it in food he don't want to eat it while it was easy to do with the panacur for gardia.
I told this to my vet when i was there the next day for something else.
I said that i'm going to try with some different foods but if nothing workes is there an other medicine ?
She said that she will look into it then.
But there was no need because i can pill it with cooked chicken.
