Giardia

Thanks,

He was doing well on it untill my vet told me to stop it for a while.
Now i start to give raw back but he doesn't like it anymore.
First he liked it more then wet food.

Mostly if i take the raw food out of my freezer i put in in the fridge for around 20 hours and then i put it out of the fridge for a short moment because it still feels to cold.

How do i know when it has been too long ?

I see no respons on it at all.

the vet told me his stools wouldn't change the first days. it might take a while.

It's all very difficult to say when you know nothing about it.

I don't know if it's a good vet or not.
She also gave me panacur for 3 days for giardia.
Everybody told me it was no good vet and it didn't work but it worked.

I have also used Panacur for Giardia and it DOES work. What surprises me once again, is that it worked in just 3 days... Typically the treatment is for 7-10 days!

I cannot say whether your vet is good or bad, but can share based on my own personal experience that the choice of drug being used for the Camphlobachtor is rather unusual. Please do keep us all updated as to whether this treatment works or not. Paws crossed that it does!

Yes it's the 3 days that was the problem for most people.
My vet said the infection is still very low so 3 days will be enough.

Strange enough on the first test he already got the campylobacter.
After 3 days of panacur he also tested negative on campylobacter.
Then his stools didn't got better and i tested again and he was again positive for camylobacter.

Did panacur also helped ? or did the test screw up ?

I just wanted to ask this because we are talking about bacteria and everything.

I'm thinking about giving a stray cat a change to move in.
It's the mother of 2 of my cats.

I'm pretty afraid to get diseases into the house.
should i test her poops ? and what else ?

Camphlobachtor does not respond to Panacur. It appears that you may have gotten a false negative when you retested him. Again, three days of Panacur might help the Giardia, but it would NOT resolve the Camphlobachtor.

I am assuming that each of these tests was a PCR test that would test for several different problems. If the test is once again showing positive for Camphlobachtor, then that is your culprit and you will need to treat. If you look up Camphlobachter online, the most common treatment prescribed is indeed Doxycycline... I have personally never treated any of my animals with the Stomorgyl medication, and as I mentioned previously, I am completely unfamiliar with it.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful to you, but I am not a Veterinarian and therefore must err on the side of caution, as I do not want to be advising you on something that I am not trained to do or a medication that I am not familiar with.

http://www.merckmanuals.com/vet/dig...s/overview_of_enteric_campylobacteriosis.html comes up if you do a Google search for "campylobacter cats treatment"... the Merck Manual is a great resource... if you scroll down it will tell you treatment as:
"Clindamycin, gentamicin, tetracyclines, erythromycin, and fluoroquinolones are effective againstCampylobacter spp. Penicillins, cephalosporins, and trimethoprim are generally ineffective. "

So not Metronidazole (Stromorgyl). You need to change antibiotics if you wish to treat the Campylobacter effectively.

If you have an issue with you with your kitten introducing another cat could be disastrous, even beyond the health situation. You need to get your household settled before taking on new challenges, imho...

Niels, I agree with Cynthia and Brigitte...tell your vet in Belgium to give you Doxycycline for the Campy...if she never heard of it, ask her to look it up or change vets...

You need to get Themba straightened out before adding another cat...JMO...
