Ok for sure now kitty wont have any little kitties......kitty had surgery at 10 am yesterday. All went extremely well. Now post 24 hours + she is doing fantastic. Eating and drinking like before. I was told may take 48 hours before a BM. Still waiting on that. We are hold up in my art studio, while she was having surgery I emptied what was moveable out and brought in a mattress. All the places she normally jumps up on in here I covered with MANY clear ROLLS OF contact paper so everything is STICKY. Not a pretty sight but hopefully it will detour her from the desire to jump. Now using her harness and leash to safely travel outside our hold-up room into the house. This way I feel in total control and I am sure she s not going to jump. I hold her leash tight. She is able to walk around the house, check out all her lookout windows from the floor. Also hoping the walking will aid in bringing on the BM. Once we ave made the tour of the house and she has re- marked her territory we retreat back to our room. Post instructions are 11 days to totally heal. 7 days until light activity can begin.Of course I want to do the right thing, but is it really 7 to 11 days in confinement or crated? I'm hold up her now for another day. After that I will be home but not with her 24 hours in the room. Would appreciate advise and your experience. Thanks

Good job! And no...I did not crate or confine my little girl after spaying and since she did not have a hysterectomy, she healed very quickly...she was slow for a couple of days, but that is it. I did try to keep her climbing and jumping at a minimum, but that was difficult...

Just maybe keep an eye on her? And maybe confined to a small room for a few days...

Honestly, i had major concerns about our little daredevil female. Both licking and jumping. She is a mad little skitterer. She had no problems once she recovered from anesthesia. I gave her minor pain meds when she was getting crazy to quiet her, but she still jumped around some and was fine. Try not to worry too much. I did for no reason.

Where kitty normally sleeps is up her kitty stairs to a cat walk then to her platform where her bed s. which is 7 ft. Up. She won't be able to sleep there due to health restrictions. She's already bored being cooped up.

Yes, you are right, but it should not be too long...Inara was climbing the post to the cat walk about 4 days post op...

I think you need to take it day by day. Check her incision twice a day, and if it continues to look pristine I don't think it would hurt to let her be a little more active after a few days. However, I would limit these times to when she can be supervised by you, and always check the incision to make sure it looks good. I've had girls climb the cat tree and hop up to the top of the book shelves within a day of surgery, but the only time I've had a post-op complication was with a girl I crated but she licked the incision and it had to be redone - twice...

I think it amazing how fast cats seem to heal after what would lay us up for weeks...it seems that just a day or two post-surgery they are jumping about. I do keep them confined to one room for some days, usually a week but I don't do THAT much to stop them jumping up onto the bed or the dresser etc. I just don't play with wand toys to get them leaping about either!

The only time I've had an issue is with a post-surgical infection where the incision reopened a bit... but the vet said they had more than one that week (and I understand the difficulties keeping the surgery absolutely sterile) and antibiotics quickly resolved it.

Thanks so much for all the information! We had a good night of sleep. That helps! Same routine today but I will bring in a floor play toy. Whoopie

Oh wow! Poor baby. Nyah had internal stitches for her spay, so luckily no cone. She was still in her wild child humans can't touch me stage then, so getting the pain meds between her gums and cheeks was quite the challenge! We kept her confined in our room and were very surprised at how quickly she healed up.

Kovu was a cryptorchid, so his neuter was more invasive than normal. We were very scared he would do something crazy as he isn't known for being calm! He loves being held so meds for him were easy, however, day 2 he was really getting right back to normal. I hope your baby heals up from this ordeal very quickly!

Thank you. Yes, when our fur babies are naturally so active it's extra difficult to keep them down. Your two are lucky to have a devoted loving mum.of course they never heal as fast as we would like. Just had a call from vets office they are checking up not quite 2days post surgery. I explained ( as I did in my previous post) how we are confined in one room and I am here with her. I have not put on cone, I did put it on her initially and she went nuts. With that response it seemed with the fit she was having that it was doing more harm than good. So I removed it. Vets office said they highly recommend leaving it on fot 14 days. They also said that the entire 14 days posts a possibility of licking opening the surgery area. When I informed her I have chosen to not put the collar on, because I am right here with her, the undertones of bad mommy started. She also said only low to moderate exercise can start in 7 days. I certainly don't want to put my baby in any jeopard, but what do you all think?feed back needed!
