Gps for cats

Lots of them are very bulky as well, and too heavy for cats.
Which is one of the reasons why they don't work well. Another problem is there have been cats that have actually broken the device or knocked it off the collar - or gotten the entire collar off...

Yes, the TAGG was too bulky to be practical for anything but a larger dog. Even my very large F1 girl it seemed big and she snapped it off every time she went through the pet door also.

One of the shortcomings for cats is that they NEED to have breakaway collars because of the issue of cats jumping and possibly hanging themselves on collars, it's not something we worry about with dogs. Putting it on a harness makes sense if your cat will do that happily.

But I do think the Tile thingy might be good, it only has a short range but I am more thinking of it as an aid to find your cat than a tracking them for miles. At least then, if you are wandering the streets you will get notification if you are close. It still will mean you will have to wander around to find them though possibly if they've gone a few blocks. It's smaller size makes it a better candidate and anything that might practically be of use I am interested in trialling it :)

I think one other good point about the Tile (or any GPS system that works) is that anyone who happens to find the cat will know that it is owned and well cared for by someone, so would hopefully take steps to find the owner. I wonder if there is any 'reverse find' with the Tile? In other words, if someone finds an object tagged with a Tile if they can do a search for the owner? That would be a very convenient additional benefit (e.g., providing a way to contact the owner via the website, rather than providing any personal information).

True, I wonder about the ability to find the owner via the Tile... it would seem reasonable that you might be able to...and would definitely be a plus! Still I'd want my cat microchipped in case the collar/harness was lost...

I'm thinking writing all information name, address, cell phone number, micro chip number & guaranteed reward on paper. Take a photo of information with digital camera, remove SD card make a small pocket for SD card on harness. Since the SD card is small/ no weight & can be marked "INFO HERE"...... It's the GPS that is difficult to solve.

That's an interesting idea - in fact a pretty nifty marketing idea and new twist on the typical cat walking jacket for anyone so motivated to become an entrepreneur...

It's so easy to do & for such a insignicant amount of money, can't imagine anyone wanting to buy one when it can be done so easily.

A walking jacket with a pocket and SD card included - I can imagine lots of people interested... it's all in the marketing. It may seem easy to you, but impossible to others such as myself who barely even owns a needle...

And also an attractive thing for family members to purchase as a gift for someone that has a beloved pet... properly marketed I am sure it might sell!
