He is precious! ! We have a F2 gal, and I kind of thought she was petite too... Though I guess that's just me. Everyone else thinks she's huge. (Roughly 15 pounds, just under a year)

I hear you on the food issue. So costly! Our vet (who consults the large cat keeper at Seattle zoo for us, because she's that awesome) reccomendations against a full raw diet as we have kids in the house, so I have always just given small bits.

Could you all elaborate on how you do raw tbough? Buy a whole chicken and toss it in the blender?

My breeder told me that it is difficult to overfeed them as kittens and to basically keep the food coming the first year. I have a 15 month old F3 female who is now 11 lbs. She was eating about 3/4 lbs of raw per day as a kitten. This has tapered off to 1/2 lb now although there are some days where she eats poor Jammu's food as well. I am hoping to convince her that gophers are tasty.

Mandyloo - there are quite a few threads on proper raw diets on this forum. You want muscle meat, bones and organs. You also need to add certain supplements, particularly tourine. Tourine supplements become vital if the meat/bone mix has been frozen.

I have not quite gone the route of making my own as my Pixiebob Jammu wants chunks of meat and Rafiki wants it all ground up as mushy as possible. Oh joy. At this time I am buying ground raw from Dawin. They are located in Seattle and they pack it up and ship it with dry ice for about $4/lb. The food comes in 1/2 lb individual chubs so it has been convenient. Eventually I need to make my own but right now I am trying to add small chunks to Rafiki's dinner and ground to Jammu's (they both eat just the ground in the morning).

BTW, there are also discussions on this site on the best meat grinders. Your poor blender wouldn't last long with a chicken!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. @Patti He's got much more than a gleam in his eye, I can tell you that. He's as bull-headed as they come. But with that, I got an extremely social, loving kitten who isn't the least bit skittish.

One of my main concerns when I first took Tucker home was "overfeeding". After a quick chat with the breeder, apparently that isn't much of an issue...at all. Now I'm more concerned with purchasing a small chicken farm to keep the beast fed. He does scarf down his food in an extremely quick manner, which has me worried that he's going to unload the contents of his stomach on the floor at some point in time.

Overfeeding is unlikely in a growing kitten, they burn a lot of energy!

If he does start eating too fast and puking... you can try the bowls they make for dogs to slow their feeding down, making them pick the food out around the extrusions of the bowl... or else if you are feeding pieces of chicken I imagine if the pieces are large enough he does chew them or do you think he's swallowing the pieces in huge chunks?

@Brigitte Cowell His chicken consists of ground meat and bone. There isn't a whole lot of chewing involved, now that I think about it (Mostly shop-vac style inhaling). I'll probably start adding chunks and see how it goes. He hasn't spewed on the floor yet... But as he trots off, content with having just eaten more food in one sitting than most people eat in a day, he usually stops and makes the "hrrrmphhh...." gesture that anyone who has ever had too much to drink knows all too well. He then shakes it off and continues on whatever rampage he was on before he needed to feed.
