"He is probably temperamental because of his breed.."

I can't blame the buyer, as much as I do believe its buyer beware out there. Information is hard to come by about a lot of breeders and it takes a lot of balls to go off online about the bad breeders, particularly the bigger ones. numberwise, if I sold a hundred kittens a year, most would have to be okay, at least enough to make a decent fan club of buyers for anyone who tried to say anything negative would be shouted down. Jmho, that is what happens with the very big catteries out there. Hope that makes sense since I'm on my phone lol.

The only "big" breeder we looked at was Select Exotics. They have GORGEOUS kittens & I assume they socialize them pretty well cause I've never heard anything bad, but like you said, it takes balls to talk badly on big breeders. :p We got Kovu from Moon Heart cattery (they are on here now!). First litter ever, and he was sweet as pie, very outgoing, not shy at all, took to us right away. They did an amazing job with him. :) I couldn't say anything bad about them if my life depended on it!

Our SVs are pretty good at the vet... It probably helps that "going to the vet" is actually "go to work with mommy"... They get pretty spoiled there and usually have free reign over certain parts of the hospital... Our Bengals on the other hand... Not so much... but they bounced around from home to home when they were younger, so you can't really hold that against them.

The first time our vet said multiple times that the breed is known to be very aggressive so we should be aware of this. The comment did not sit well with us.

Our SVs as 4 months old at their first vet visit was great at the vet... jumping on, climbing on, pouncing on everything. They also tried to eat everything they could and found dried liver dog treats hidden on the counter.

We got quite a scare though when the vet was examining the girl on the exam table and her brother was on the counter with the sink across the room.
She started to cry out so he suddenly goes into superhero mode and leaps to her from the counter to the exam table with his front and rear legs stretched as far as they could go...

He didn't make it and fell straight to the floor. Adorable and warmed my heart, but gave me a heart attack. A very memorable first vet visit for us.

Ashley, we got our boys from Select Exotics, and they were both socialized well. They actually have a woman who does nothing but play with kittens every day. Lucky was in my lap within a minute of meeting him. Cappy is just a shyer personality, but nothing that persistence and cooked chicken hasn't conquered -- he can shake the couch with his purr when he gets going.

The boys had their first and second vet visits within the last few weeks (and a play session to get used to the place before that), and they did fine. They let it be known quickly they didn't like to be restrained, and the tech and vet were both good about not holding them down for shots. No scratching, no biting, and plenty of playing with a feather teaser in between. Our vet has worked with a couple SVs in the past, but he told me from day 1 that I had a deeper knowledge about the breed in general than he did from my years of reading about them. He's asked me to send him any articles I think may be helpful about their health or breed in general. The boys are a bit like rock stars when they go to the vet now -- there are usually a few wandering vet techs stopping by, as well as the other vets in the practice.

Jmho, that is what happens with the very big catteries out there.

Let me clarify for future's sake- this is what happens with bigger catteries (and dog breeders too!) that DO have a lot of dissatisfied customers- the numbers game ensures they have ENOUGH happy or satisfied customers that they shout out any dissatisfied one...

My own saying has always been that you can't really judge a cattery when everything goes perfect- it's when things DON'T go perfect that you can see a breeder's true colors.
