I haven't named the kitten yet and don't know what his name was at A1 so I'm delaying that as long as I can until things are finally resolved. It lessens the attachment temporarily. Regardless, these cats deserve and are receiving the utmost of care and loving attention. It would be unfair to them not to treat them that way.

Unfortunately I am picky about appearance in this instance. I normally get my pets from rescue shelters, but this time I decided to spend money and go for the Serval looks and traits in the Savannah breed. Ice hit almost all the marks for me and sadly the other little guy only has the black nose going for him and looks very non-Savannah/Serval. Not his fault, and he's a loving little kitten. I know my personal foibles when it comes to buying for appearance. If I spend the money to have a certain look, I am dead set that it is what I expect to receive.

Of course personality is very important in animals and these two have it in abundance which is great. Abby, soon to be renamed Yuki has an amazing appearance, and her personality is so overwhelming that her smaller than an average housecat size is no drawback. In fact if Yuki's personality gets any bigger I'll be completely bald very soon.

Maybe you could keep both kittens and ask Martin to let you pick another acceptable snow kitten from current or a future litter as a replacement?

What generation are the kittens?

I don't know Tort- but the reason why this often doesn't work is because people do have limited space/funds for cats. When your heart is set on a certain breed/type, it's really not fair to ask them to settle- as wonderful as these cats may be (kitten, I think?). Of course, who knows- they may have plenty of room to do so!

My apologies, as I wasn't at all trying to be judgmental. It's certainly a bad situation you have been placed in through no fault of your own.

The spots are what brought me to the dance, but I was certainly a personality shopper. That I ended up with a pretty classic example was just dumb luck. My next one in the wings is a melanistic as I had a bigger window to wait. As a wise member has attached to his posts, "you get the first for the spots, the second for the personality".

As the customer you should expect things to be perfect and as a breeder that's what they should strive for as well. When things go wrong, we need to be accepting that perfection isn't always an option and more often than not people do step up and try to do the right thing.

Anyway, I hope you get things sorted out and again I definitely feel for you.

Agreed. Had I been notified up front and given a chance to work something out instead of being surprised at the airport, things would undoubtedly be a lot different at this moment. Would I have been initially upset, yes. Would it have been easier for me to dive into working on an immediate solution, definitely.

Completely agreed, being told at the time of Ice being mistakenly shipped elsewhere and given the choice of a "replacement" kitten it would be different. I also wouldn't like the choice being somewhat forced on me by the different kitten arriving like that.

And your words about being focused on looks does make sense. We all know that personality is important, but you did select your kitten from pictures hence the looks were what attracted you to Ice.

It's hard to know what to do, I don't think there is a wrong decision. If you send the kitten back, it is the right thing to do as you should not keep the kitten if it is a continual reminder that you didn't get what you paid for and really really wanted (Ice). If you keep the kitten, then you should be sure you can move past that stumbling block and be able to appreciate what THIS kitten offers.

As far as the kitten being a reminder, I do not see him that way. He is who he is with his own personality, who through no fault of his own ended up an element of a goofed situation.

As I started this reply, he and Yuki had been sitting eather up on my shoulders or my lap for a good hour. Most of it with Yuki making my head soggy again. Ehat is the Savannah fascination for the human head? :)

Right now I have moved to the floor and without any prompting Yuki crawled into my lap followed soon by the kitten.

lol i read through this entire thread and at the end i was like, my nickname is Yuki! lol

But yea, if that were me, regardless of how cute the kitten/cat was, I would return it. I set high standards for my kitten, found a breeder to buy from locally, and waited til a litter popped up with a kitten that set my standards. First was a rich brown/rust color with good spots, good ocelli, come from bloodlines that produces big cats, and then has to have an outgoing, fearless personality. I didnt get the black nose i wanted, but oh well.

Honestly if you paid the money and you were all set to get a gorgeous servally savannah, I personally wouldnt have spent that money and accepted a less than perfect kitten. Even if it meant waiting more months for the right one to be born
