I think I agree with Deborah, it's time to leave the door open and let nature take it's course. If I remember correctly you have a cat tree in the room, if so try to coax Azidi up to the top with a treat and then open the door to let Kilifi in.

I suppose so.

They did have a confrontation yesterday. Kilifi was in the room with Azidi and all was good. They were keeping a wary eye on each other but were not posturing. Then, dumb me, I started flipping the wand toy. They both headed for it and when Azidi realized she was within a few inches of Kilifi she hissed and batted at Kilifi and the furball began. 10 - 15 seconds of hissing, spitting, chasing and scaring the heck outta dad. I yelled at Kilifi, as she was the one doing the chasing... she froze... I picked her up and put her out and things were ok. Azidi came out and wanted to play and be petted. I did a bit and went out to Kilifi. She was fine and wanted to play. Maybe if I keep my fat self outta the mix all will be ok.

Cary, I've realized I'm doing much the same. Getting in the middle. I'm backing off for a while and will let them work it out next week.

It's hard, though. I know they're both scared, and both want to be friends. But they have to make it happen, not me.

Best wishes!

Yup. So very right Chris. We do try to protect our kids. Maybe too much. I have a week of vacation starting in a week and a half. By then I will let them do their own thing for sure. Maybe even a bit before then. Just don't want either of my girls to be traumatized.

By the way they immediately wanted to interact with you after the fray, it doesn't sound like they were too traumatized at all ;)

I know Patti. I think I am just too overprotective of both of them. Both of them are just so special little entities. I love 'em so much. Old softie, me.

Cary…cats are territorial to an extent. The range can vary by day. Azidi's room is her territory and she will attempt to defend it from Kilifi and teach Kilifi what is appropriate in Azidi's room. Try to get them to play on neutral territory if you can discern where that is…perhaps the space outside Azidi's room or a hallway.

You can also try parallel play - in other words, instead of playing with them together with a wand toy, have a wand toy in each hand to play with them separately but side by side - this avoids the competitive instinct that comes up when one tries to take the other's toy, and helps get them used to being in each other's proximity while distracting them so they don't mind so much.

Thanks ladies. I will try both ideas. I REALLY should know all these things, but my head goes out to lunch when I deal with them. Love is a strange power. :)

I tried the open door thing again, with Lady Kilifi in the bedroom, to tempt Ms Azidi into coming out and exploring. She came out into the living room and explored. When she would see me, back she would go. BUT she came out again. After a while she would not run in when she saw me. I let her explore until she was finished and wanted to nap, and then closed the door and let Lady K. out. They still seem a little put off by each other. So I will try the house familiarization for a while.

Besides, I think Ms Azidi has ear mites, so I need to get her to the vet.

If you think Azidi has ear mites it might be less traumatic to treat her at home with Revolution, but best to have your vet check her out to make sure if you can get her there without too much drama. Have you kept a carrier in her room? If she's not used to being in one you might want to keep one in her room and feed her snacks in it so she's comfortable going into it.
