Um, yeah, don't need an animal communicator to tell you that. Zidi is not going to like ANYTHING that disturbs her comfort zone. In that way, she's not much different than a lot of other cats. Keep it up with the trips to the living room; remember that you don't have to be in the room all the time she's in there. She's making progress.

Did Andrea know in advance that you were taking Zidi into the living room?

I had emailed her that I had been working with Zidi trying to get her comfy in the LR but no details.

I went in to do the cage thing with Zidi, and I heard her as plain as day ask that we not do it tonight. I told her it was not going to hurt her, and she begged. her mind, her eyes and her meows. I told ok tonight, but tomorrow back to the plan. She grudgingly said ok. And YES, I DID hear it.
Remember, Azidi essentially lived in one room her entire life (her choice) so it's not surprising that she is uncomfortable expanding her world. I think if she wants to live in one area of the house that is not such a bad thing, it is more important (in my mind) that you get her and Kilifi on good terms so that you can leave her door open to adventure out on her own, when or if she is ever interested in doing so.

OK. Since it is so very traumatic for Zidi to be placed in the cage and taken out to the living room, and the way she begged me not to do that, I have decided to try the suggestion Patti made. Just try to get Zidi to be ok with Kiki being in her room. If you all could see Zidi's eyes, you would agree, it is way too cruel to make her come out. Once she and Kiki are ok with each other, I will just leave the door open to her room all the time and she can explore at her own pace. I believe I will have better luck this way.
I think that sounds like a good plan... if it works and you can get them to get along...
Are you able to put up a screen door, or stacked baby safety gates across the doorway to Azidi's room so that she and Kilifi can actually see and interact with each other through the door without actually touching noses (or claws, or teeth...)? I'm thinking you might be able to find either one at a reasonable price off Craigslist. I might even be able to pick up something and bring it down on Sunday if you can't find anything before then.
