Hello! My name is Madison and I've loved the Savannah from afar for almost 10 years but have never been able to get one... Until now!

I have been living with a family member who is allergic, but come this Spring/Summer, they will movin. and I'm starting to look for a beautiful kitten to adopt into my family.

I've done what I consider a fair bit of research on the breed, but I know I'll always have questions, and that's why I joined this site. It was recommended to me by a lady who just adopted a Savannah into her home.

I'm going to start by asking my first question (with a little background).


Two weeks ago I contacted a local cattery that breeds the filial generation I'm looking at (F2) through her website. After a week with no reply, I sent her a quick email, hoping she'd know I'm serious about this and not just a tire kicker. The next day she posted to her Facebook page apologizing for the late replies, explaining that they've been busy bottle feeding their new soon-to-be-available litter of F2 kittens.

I've waited another week with no reply still, and I'm starting to get antsy. I feel like these kittens will go to homes without the breeder ever giving me a chance. I'm also afraid it will be forever until her next litter, as she only has the one F1 queen.
I know I'm not ready for a kitten now, but I still have this irrational fear that this is my only chance.

My question is, should I send her another message (this time through Facebook) or phone and leave a message

Or, have I contacted her enough?

I don't want to bug the crap out of this lady, but I also don't want her to think that because I can't get one now, she can wait a couple months before messaging me back.

but there is here in montreal another breeder with f2 for sale for this spring if you want some info just let me know.

Okay, thanks Chris!

I'm trying to keep it local mainly because I really like Exotic Tails from what I've seen so far, and also in part because of shipping or the long drive it would take to get to Montreal. (I can't stand being in the car too long, I can't imagine how a little kitten would feel about it!)

If thinks just don't work out, I'll be sure to ask for extra information.

Hey!

I was wondering if it was still a bad time to call the cattery?

I drafted up another message to send to their Facebook, and I'll send it to their site and email as well (covering all the bases haha!).

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in reading it over and letting me know if it seems okay!

This week has been so discouraging!! I have been receiving a lot of criticism from people about getting a Savannah, and even getting a cat. For most people it's the cost, and for others it's the fact that there are many cats and kittens that are abandoned and need a home, and some people think it's too long of an investment. I wish more people could join the excitement and hype with me, instead of rain on my parade.

On top of that my taxes were messed up this year, and instead of getting a tax refund... I owe them money!! I was hoping some of the refund could go towards a kitten


But silver linings....

I've been promoted to manager! I begin my training at the end of March!! To celebrate I bought a new cat toy

What you do with your hard earned money is your decision and yours alone. As long as you have the $ to pay for both your new companion and the upkeep of the same, it is no one else's business!

What I personally like about buying a particular breed is that I have some idea of what I am getting - in terms of personality and activeness as well as looks. I do not want a lazy lap cat so a SV is perfect for me. My husband wants a lap cat so we also have a pixie bob. Ever wonder if fewer animals would wind up in the shelters if people knew what to expect?
