Hi everyone, My name is Trish. I am about to become a part of the Savannah experience and have been searching the internet for information both good and bad and then checking back for real life experiences on this forum. The one truth that I think I have found is that nothing that I watch or read can prepare me for this new experience :)

I am 54 with a husband, a daughter in college, and a 10 year old female Himalayan. Cats have been a part of my family my entire life. I have never chosen a cat before, they have always chosen me by showing up at my back door wet, cold, tired, and hungry, with the exception of a Himalayan that was given to my daughter as a gift. I have had stray cats bring me their litters of kittens that we would raise and wean, keeping one and finding loving homes for the rest.

I have lived with playful cats, aloof cats, snuggle bunny cats, aggressive cats, cats from hell cats, clever cats, and not so very clever cats. I have loved and respected them all and been given the greatest of gifts which is their love in return.

Thank you so much to this forum and all the people who participate. I have read stories that have made me laugh out loud and stories that made me cry.

I am going to adopt two Savannah babies and have one chosen but I am having trouble choosing the second one and so now I will head down to the questions and advice area to see if any of you can help me.

Welcome Trish. You will not find a more dedicated group of Savannah servants. We will all be anxious to welcome you Savannah babies to the world of "Savandalism." OH... Pictures of your babies are required. :)

Welcome, Trish!

How would you describe your Himalayan's personality? I ask because when you add a very high energy interactive cat like a Savannah, you need to consider the current resident(s).... if your cat is the type that wants to lay about in the sun undisturbed they are going to hate being pounced on continually. Savannahs take a kitty no for "try harder" and a cat running away as an invitation to chase and wrestle to the ground. So making sure your Himy has places to go to for undisturbed naps would be a good idea...shelving, caves etc.

Getting two kittens is a good idea as they can bounce off each other, but no guarantee that this will mean they leave your fluffy one alone as much as desired... I don't mean to sound negative, I just want to make sure your experience is a good one!

Welcome Trish! It sounds like you have a great deal of experience with cats, which should come in handy when adopting new Savannah kittens. Do you have pics of the kitten you have chosen?

Thank you all for the warm welcomes :)

Brigitte, My Himalayan is very, very playful but kind of in slow motion. I lost a beloved cat last June who was 15 to a stroke. The Himy used to drive her crazy always wanting to play and run around but my other girl had just gotten too old. They were together for 9 years. The Himy still searches for her every day going from room to room calling her :( I think and hope that after the initial shock they will all enjoy each other. Every time my husband passes by her he stops and shakes his heads and says "Life is never going to be the same for you" I try to tell him the same thing but I don't think he believes me, lol. In any case I thankfully have a big house and huge secure screen porch that we can give the Himy breaks as she needs them.

So I have chosen an F2 female and an F3 male and I will upload photos as soon as I go back to the thread that explained how the thumbnails work :)

And hi Paige! I am in northwest NJ almost on the PA border. Very rural, lots of farmland.

Cary... Savandalism has turned into my word of the day, couldn't stop laughing. The photos as soon as I figure it out.

Rafiki, I am hoping to have them by May 1st. We have been in a kitten proofing frenzy. My husband and I went out today to buy child proofing cabinet locks and electrical cord plastic covers. We hope to have the house ready so that we can spend the quarantine period focusing on the new babies and Himy giving them all of our love and attention.

Okay on to figure out the photos... or suffer the humiliation yet again of asking my daughter how to do something quite obvious on the computer :)

That was my girl Angel. This is Ms. Piggy whom my daughter named after Kermit the frog's girlfriend because she is so blond and pink. I call her princess and because I am the food lady it works. I will be naming the new kittens because of the whole self fulfilling prophecy thing, Ms. Piggy is the MESSIEST eater I have ever encountered.

I am using Select Exotics and read some threads mentioning them and think that my babies will have some relatives here :) Holly has been very kind and patient with me since this is really my first time actually picking kittens. My 22 year old daughter reverted to 6 years old squealing at each photo. She wanted them all so she was no help lol. We are keeping busy kitten proofing and kitten supply shopping.
