Sol I understand your frustration dealing with Alpha but you are absolutely correct that you frightened him when you beat him. There are ways to correct bad behavior that are better than physical punishment. The best thing for you to have done would be to just leave the room and let him calm down. It will probably take a very long time before Alpha trusts you again. Talk to your vet about whether the leg is healed enough so that he doesn't have to wear the cone.

Are there any breeders near you that can coach you on how to handle a cat like Alpha? Even talking with someone over the phone who can give you help would be better than you trying to do this by yourself.

Sol who is your breeder? Do you speak any other language besides Italian? I agree with witchy... Hitting, beating an animal is not the answer. Alpha is 75% serval and is acting as such because he is likely in pain. I'll be honest...I commend you for hanging in there, but I'm not sure this is the right cat for you. It seems you are gone quite a bit, yes?

I never beat Alpha but in this case I beated him only to put back the cone because He was fighting against. I'm only trying to help him You never beat your cats? I can't leave him without the cone it was only for his safety that I fought with him only to heal him. If He bites again his leg He Will wear the cone for at least another month! He Will die! It's not life for a cat like him wearing a cone for all this time! I speak Italian Spanish and French a little bit. I don't know who is Alpha's breeder because I was not the one that bought him.I only know that she's not very nice of you call her. Here in Italy no one has a cat like Alpha because He is not legal here so the only people that know things about Alpha are in this forum. If you have to put the cone to your cats what you do if they don't want? Tell me and I will do it. Now I will do again the bandage by myself so I can remove again the cone and leave him Free. But tonight I won't spend time with him so he can calm himself. But if it was for Alpha no one should anything for him except feeding him. If you know someone here in Italy that can help me tell me and I will contact him. Now I will show you the leg of Alpha...

Hi Sol,

No I have never hit or beat my cats...can you order something like Nutricalm from Amazon to give him to calm him down? Can the vet give him anything to calm him down a bit, so you can handle him? How much longer does he need the cone? I understand that you are trying to help him and we are trying to help you.

Sol, maybe you mean you had to wrestle or hold him still with your hands, and it got rough because Alpha did not want to be still? The word "beat" means hitting because you wanted to hurt and punish.

I got into a wrestling match with Moggie recently trying to wrap him up to take his temperature, after he decided he did not like this, and Moggie is a lot smaller and weaker than Alpha! And for a day afterwards he did not like it when I tried to pick him up, and he knows me well and usually trusts me a lot. When I was trying to hold him still, and failing, it took me a couple minutes to see if I wanted things my way, I would have to use my brains better! I wonder if you could sew something strong that would protect and cover his leg that attaches to a harness, so he doesn't have to wear that collar?

I am sorry you both have had such a rough time... Just sounds like a nightmare

yes I have...where is the bandage?
The picture is without bandage during the medication to show you what He did to himself! And Now has improved a lot! Maybe in two weeks it will be closed if He doesn't touch...

Ah ok - that is a pretty bad wound :-( Yes, I hope it closes ASAP and Alpha behaves for you.
