HELP..... Neutering - what to expect

A neuter is a very simple procedure and I'm guessing Sasha will not even notice. Don't worry about a cone unless your vet recommends it. I have never used a cone on a cat for a neuter.

"...instead of shaving the scrotum, we pluck the hair...." OMG that was the worst part of the procedure!

I believe that this is indeed the procedure used on Jammu (pixie bob, not a SV) at 11-1/2 weeks - just a couple of days before we got him. His breeder said that on the drive home (less than an hour after the procedure), he let himself out of the carrier and she videotaped him kneading and purring up a storm. :in love:

I worked for a vet in high school and part of college, and assisted in many neuters. Never saw a problem in 4 years.

Mickey and D were both neutered before coming home, Jarvis was neutered at 5 months, and he did not wear a cone of shame.

Jarvis was fine, with the sole exception of the fact that he no longer growls and swats at the vet- now he tries to hide in Mommy's arms.

There IS a reason we men find that to be so traumatic....
Yeah but when compared to all the stuff women go through, you guys are big babies. Speaking of babies, (like that slick segue?) my hubby is a pediatrician. Way back when we were dating, about 5 dates into the relationship, he asks if I'd mind stopping by the hospital on the way back from dinner so he could do a circumcision and would I like to watch. Morbid curiosity bade me watch and a little neutering is nothing compared to a circumcision.

Neutering really is a quick and simple procedure. The anesthesia is more worrisome than the actual neuter and the surgery is so quick, they're hardly under at all.

Our kittens get altered at 12-14 weeks and they come home a bit groggy and are back to bouncing around the very next day.

I don't care. Stay away from my dangley parts! And I care not to watch any male get "modified". :p

We just dropped Sasha at the vet's .... Poor baby. Seems he won't need a cone if he can leave the area alone and not lick it.

Sasha's back home, no cone .... I thought he was supposed to be sleepy but he's going crazy about his toys - think he missed them the most !!!!
