Also...Blue ridge Beef sells a pretty high quality ground quail, rabbit, chicken, etc. and you can call and order and then pick up in Rockaway NJ.
OMG this is freaky, I used to live at 53 Beach St in Rockaway...they're at 114...Sorry OT again, but that just freaked me out!

That's awful. When the guy in the Bronx was caught with a siberian tiger in his studio apartment a few years back the tiger was relocated. My exotic vet has her practice in westchester county and once performed a dual surgery to extract a monkeys arm from a big cats stomach to reattach it (surgery was not successfull and the monkey died unfortunately) but both primates and big cats are illegal in New York and the ower was not reprimanded by her nor any officials for bringing them in. technically my low content wolfdog is to be put down under state law which is why as far as I'm concerned she's a husky Malamute mix
It sounds so harmless...the tiger was relocated...but if you talk to anyone that has done exotic cat rescue it is SO much more :-( Exotic cats do NOT rehome well, a Serval can often starve itself to death when left by its human :-( And this highlights my problem with getting an illegal pet, it is the PET that suffers when discovered, not the human. It is the pet that is either turfed out and "relocated" or it is euthanized.

And be aware that if an animal is illegal it doesn't matter what YOU consider it, it is what the state thinks it is and whether you can prove it is NOT what they think it is... I work on TICA's Legislative Committee and it is erroneous to think that just by saying it is not a wolfdog will stop anyone deciding it is one...it takes one disgruntled employee, bad friendship, breakup with girlfriend/boyfriend etc...

Everyone is fixed including the wallaby yes. Well the Savannah's aren't fixed yet but will be shortly. The fennecs had a litter of one kit while they were living with their previous owner but Fennec fox breeding is extremely difficult and does not just happen the way it does with other animals. Most importantly, their den has be be left untouched during the breeding season during which the foxes will literally smear their feces all over the place and each other. I've been in a fox den following breeding season and well the smell is worse than a skunk.
Eeek! That sounds even worse than Rocco... Kristine and my amazingly stinky Savannah stud male! LOL!

Quick question for everyone? What is the general rule when it comes to wet vs dry food? I always have dry food available. I've only had him home for two days and he has been eating just about one large can on wet food a day. Is this too much/too little? He is currently 14 weeks and weighs exactly 3 pounds. Should he be allowed to eat as much wet as he can? I don't want to overfeed him but he's very active and always playing (can hear the bells going all day long) and I do not want to underfed him either. Thanks!
I like to send my kittens out eating raw meat, canned and kibble and let the new owner choose what diet they will eat. My feeling is that whatever the kitten wishes to eat is the right amount.... if they are eating more it often corresponds to a growth spurt and they are simply burning more fuel. You will notice if overfed, he'll get chubby!

I've been free feeding dry and splitting a can of wet 3 times a day. I guess I'm going to increase the amount of wet food each feeding to see what his appetite is like. What do you feed for raw? My dogs are on a partially raw diet consisting mostly of chicken backs. Definitely not something his little teeth can bite through.
Just be careful with feeding a raw diet with too much chicken backs. I've recently had an issue with a kitten that may have been exacerbated by high bone in the diet (from whole ground rabbits) and chicken backs are high in bone...so make sure if you feed that you are also feeding a good amount of muscle meat and organs to balance it out :)

Yea i wouldn't do chicken backs especially with a kitten. Going to give blue ridge beef a call and pick up some ground meats. Thanks for the tips everyone!

Just placed a 100 pound order through hare-today. Mostly food for the Savannah's but threw in some big raw beef knuckle bones for the dogs. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Greatly appreciated!!

Hi everyone. My name is Alex and ive been lurking on this site for a few weeks reading as much as I can to prepare myself for the day I would bring home my own Savannah. Luckily that day was Saturday when I brought home my 14 week old F3 Kovu. I had originally gone to look at a litter of F2's that were not yet ready to go home. Well I put down a deposit on the F2 but when this little guy caught my eye I just had to hold him. He is absolute mush. The best temperament ive ever seen in a cat. He got into a tussle about a month ago and sustained an injury to his nose so now he has a scar running down the center of his nose. To be honest I didnt even notice it at first but now that its been pointed out I can tell. I just think it adds character. Thats why I named him Kovu, it means Scar in Swahili. The F2 i'll be bringing home has been named Zuri (which means beautiful in Swahili). He will be ready to come home on September 8th. Im attaching pictures of Kovu with his new best friends, my pair of fennec foxes Savannah and Cooper. I know that day two might have been a bit too soon to introduce other pets but he was just doing SO well that I couldnt resist. It was love at first sight. Im also attaching pictures of the F2 Zuri at 4 days from the breeder (hes second from the left in the bunch), and then two pics of him from saturday. He was especially fond of the brace that I have been wearing and will be wearing for a few months due to a torn bicep. He could not stop playing with the straps and biting the brace. Anyways im very excited to invite the babies into my home and look forward to fully integrating them into my family (which includes the two fennec foxes, a siberian husky, a very low content wolf hybrid, and a 5 year old Bennett's wallaby named Indy).
