Hi everyone (From NYC/New Jersey)

Oh, I love Wallabies. They have one at the petting zoo at the fair each year. I always want to run off with him. I heard that they spook easy and can cause some serious damage with their hind feet? Not like I can ever have one here but if I could..... :)

Interesting stuff, Dantes! Thanks for the explanation... there's stuff you miss growing up overseas and only learning about the US from movies ;-)
I don't think you would've known about it unless you lived in the NYC area...apparently they're considering reinstating this tax for the MTA (?) again...interesting...guess I'm not moving back to NY. :/

Well no, don't move back to NY with an F3 Savannah, please! At least not until the laws change...

Most animals when spooked can cause damage... and yes their hind feet can really cause damage, especially the larger kangaroos. But in general, they are calm and gentle critters!

Yea Savannah's are technically illegal in new York city but so are ferrets, sugar gliders, ball pythons, large birds, and just about everything else that isn't a domestic dog or cat yet everyone still has them. If I had a dollar for everytime I police officer stopped me to pet the wallaby in his pouch when he was in the city I'd be very rich!

I will say that while the animal planet episode (which was actually filmed at my parents house in westchester county) is very cute and informative, the Bravo show is well....reality TV and is really more for entertainment than for informational purposes.

They didn't show the wallaby in the video clip :-( Were you seriously considering that apartment?

I did try and search for the Pets101 episode but was no more successful than you. Oh well... thinking about wallabies and kangaroos just makes me homesick anyways...

Easy for you to say, but running Savannah Rescue has meant for some very stressful times when we've been contacted by a shelter or vet telling us to get the cat out or it will be euthanized by close of day. Once I only got the voice mail a couple hours too late for the Savannah :-(

I personally won't take that kind of risk with my precious kittens and so have refused many a sale to NY over the years. There are definitely breeders happy to take the sales though...

I guess it is because wallabies and roos are high instinct prey animals, like deer. Quick flight response. This one was lovely. I don't think they would put him in a petting zoo if he were a risk!

That is horrible, Brigitte. I can't see why the shelter just can't export them out of state. Absurd. I am sure it is because they just don't want to deal with it.
