I could live with the ringworm if everything else is good. I do understand how something such as that can breakout with even the best breeders. As long as I'm getting a good kitten that's not from some back yard breeder I'll be fine I think

I was raised on a farm and I couldn't imagine sending sick animals to new homes while charging high prices.
It was shady cause they delayed shipping him cause they said they had to wait to neuter, but in fact they were treating his ringworm and never was forthright about that. And they didn't treat it all the way and sent him anyway. It was good enough to send , but I wondered what the black spots were when I received him.

I would be super pissed if I paid 20,000 and they sent that mess to me to handle. It is a full time job to get that surprise in the house and irradiate it. We are good now! I just wished it isn't about the money$$$ ,but more about the creature.

The fact of the matter is not whether it is bad or treatable but that I paid a lot money for animal that was sent to me w ringworm undisclosed.

I agree with you completely, but the point is that there could be other things wrong with the kitten instead of, or in addition to ringworm, so should be checked out as well.

It's interesting to me cause I thought Kathrin from A1 loved the animals and genetically studied them. They must have been offered a price that they couldn't refuse to sell.

Kathrin is no longer an owner of A1...they sold to someone I think a year ago (while still "managing" the place) who apparently sold it again now... and the Stuckis are now living in another state? The original owner was Joyce Sroufe who is considered one of the founders of the breed...but she's not been directly involved for some years.

Martin Stucki is the only one I've met of the Stuckis, he's come to some of the Annual cat shows, he was very very clear about this being a business. I remember a fairly heated discussion where he was defending some actions (selling to illegal states, etc) with his belief that if running a business it wasn't his responsibility to check out buyer credentials and "we" were all only interested in profits. It was NOT a love of animals....at least not the overriding concern.

So saying that, the ringworm might not be from A1. Recently I've had information that not all the kittens they sell are from their physical cattery. There was long ago the Ashera scandal that proved that they brokered some F1 kittens, but they apparently continued that. There is a breeder in FL that had a contract to sell litters to them for resale, and another story of them arranging to send a kitten not from their cattery. So if brokering kittens from other breeders, there is no way for them to control such things...

I think it sucks that the a1 stories only come out after it's way too late to do anything about the incidents. My story included.

There have been 'stories' circulating about A1 for years, including many success stories. The key is - for any breeder - ask for references and read about others' experiences.

Yes there are many success stories including my beautiful melanistic f4 I bought from Martin. The problem is that things don't always go the right way, and it seems that often those stories are the ones that get suppressed when in fact they are the ones that shed the most light on the breeders. It's easy to be happy with a breeder when everything goes well but a breeder's true character is best proven under difficult circumstances. How a breeder treats their customers when something goes wrong, their support of the owners and the cats they raised. Whether they are truly concerned or indifferent. To me as a customer, hearing the bad stories would have been 100 times more helpful because at least I would know going into the breeder/customer relationship, what sort of support i would get in that situation. Again, unfortunately those just aren't the stories that make it to the top.
