I got my two from A1 prior to the recent change of ownership. You can find what I experienced in the threads here. Despite a big mix up and ringworm, all worked out. These SVs are wonderful.

I followed your thread closely, parts of your experience were very similar to what had happened to me.

LOL, don't know anyone who really likes it... But a quick question? Is there a test that our local vet can do before introducing a potential Ring Worm victim into our home?
Hiss hate rw! Lol especially when it spreads to my little kiddos. I have a fabulous cat from them, he talks ports prances falls down , thinks he can climb bigger things than his body, I want a bigger one next time!!! By the way the Christmas tree is a mess. Two bottom strands down on the ground lol

I totally agree Trish. I know a breeder who had a cat sent to her with ringworm and it took her TWO YEARS to completely irradicate it from her home and cattery - it was a nightmare!!!
Shivers! Egads. Two years! I know from the Health list that some breeders will quit due to ringworm-- it can be that devastating to a cattery type situation.

Patti hit it on the head- btw- ringworm is insidious. If you cannot see the spots on the cat, themselves, there is a good chance the vet won't be able to tell either. The give-aways are either dry, flaky skin in a circle OR black skin that kinda looks like a scab. Good breeders- even the best- can have to deal with RW from time to time, it's that easy to walk into a multicat household, but it's how they treat it that divides the good from the bad.

I treated both cats w cream and internal med twice daily. And weekend sulfur baths. Myself tea tree oil , burned the hell out if it. My spots went away. This experience is a 4 to 6 week process. Bleaching house is also a bear and washing cat bedding. Bleaching floors and vacuuming carpets daily.

I checked around and only found one issue. All others I found had a good experience. I really hope I haven't made a terrible mistake using them.

I do know that the new owners are the Engster family. Martin and Amanda I believe. They have all been very nice thus far.

So when someone purchases another's cattery does the breeding cats remain the same or does only the name change ownership? Do the cats from A1 come from quality lineage?

It is unfortunate at times that the community is so silent, but I know from personal experience that individuals have been threatened a lawsuit if they publicly complained. Even if the lawsuit has no ground to stand on, it is still an expensive and emotionally taxing experience to have to hire a lawyer to fight it, not to mention the time and energy wasted on the darned thing.

More about the new owners - be sure to read all the way through and draw your own conclusions: http://pictures-of-cats.org/a1-savannahs-new-ownership.html

The kittens born at a cattery will bear that cattery's name at the beginning of their name. If it is purchased by another cattery then the second cattery's name will be at the end of their name. This can become tricky since you can only have 35 characters allowed in a name. So for instance, if I purchase a kitten from Paige and name her Belle her official TICA name would be Agato Belle of Jasirisana.

I personally can't speak to the lineage of the A1 cats - it is not a secret that way back when Joyce founded and ran A1 she was not much of a record keeper so there were errors found in the pedigrees that were never corrected. When Martin Stucki took over he was so secretive that it's difficult to know what he was doing, one would need to purchase a five generation pedigree to see what is in the lineage of your own cat. As was pointed out earlier, it is known that he purchased and brokered litters from other breeders, and has sold F1 kittens as Ashera cats in the past further muddying the waters...

Yes, in my case it was more of a verbal threat although I had to sign papers stating that I would not pursue any further reparations for damages. All in all, a very unfortunate situation, especially for the kittens involved.

I'm so sorry you've had such a bad experience, and glad that you were able to hook up with Trish so you can know what kitten purchasing should really be like!
