It is so cool that some of you have leash train your cats. I tried it and could not take the fear of loosing them. My first cat got startled and squirmed out of her walking jacket. We were lucky to retrieve her.

One of my Bengals, Sterling was starting to be a door darter. He only made it out once and I recovered him in the front yard. Now whenever he starts eyeing the front door, we set up the leaf blower outside the door and wait until he goes for it. The abrupt noise and blowing freaks him out enough that he stops for a few months.

My cats have two outdoor enclosures, both are accessed through cat doors in a window. The backyard enclosure is accessed through our bedroom window and our bathroom shower window. They love the race track effect of having two doors. The grape vines have taken over this enclosure and made a nice shade over the top since this photo. The cats love watching the chickens too.


The front yard enclosure is connected to the dining room and has a giant ficus tree and fountain. This photo was before the vines and ficus tree took over. The cats really enjoy sleeping in the sun, hiding in the plants, bird watching and chasing bugs.

I agree, kitties really love the racetrack effect of two entrances or exits... makes for more fun playtime for them

I love this enclosure, Kay. I wish I could enclose my terrace and then the cats could be out side, but...townhouse association rules prohibit it Soon it will be time to move and buy a house where I can do what I want.

I turned the back deck into a 15x30 feet enclosure and placed logs and rocks in it for them. A pet door so they can go as they please.

I only allow my F1 to go in and out of one door when it comes time for a walk. The enclosure has one exit that is always locked from the inside. I harness and leash him in the enclosure, then lead him outside from the enclosure. It has to be routine to the T. This way he associates that ONE door as the only way out of the enclosure when its time for a walk. All the other doors, he will peek when they open, but will not make a mad dash.

I only allow my F1 to go in and out of one door when it comes time for a walk. The enclosure has one exit that is always locked from the inside. I harness and leash him in the enclosure, then lead him outside from the enclosure. It has to be routine to the T. This way he associates that ONE door as the only way out of the enclosure when its time for a walk. All the other doors, he will peek when they open, but will not make a mad dash.

That sounds like a great outdoor space for your cats.

You bring up some really good points especially for newer Sv owners. They do have really good memories, so if you vary from the routine just once, it could really cause trouble. I set a timer 30 minutes before dinner is served. The noise is their call to dinner. Judah come like lightening when he hears that sound. My hope is that if there is ever a disaster and Judah gets outside, he will come running to me when he hears that noise. I am slightly paranoid about loosing any of my boys and even more with each story of an escape.

Great idea!!! I do not have that luxury yet, but hope to one day in the near future.

I like your logs in there. I have been trying to find some dead trees or logs to build another giant cat tree inside our side enclosure. A few years ago I saw one at a breeder friends house and it looked so cool. I welded one together with the left over angle iron I had from our enclosure and put wood platforms. The cats seem to like it, but it's about time to build another one, LOL.

I asked the neighbor if I could trim his big oak tree.. Those are branches off the tree. Wrapped one of the logs with rope.. They scratch the heck out of those logs.. more than the scratch post inside the house.
