Is Chicken Liver and gizzards bad for cats?

Do you mean RAD CAT ? I've tried that in the ground rabbit and my cats will eat that... but they don't like Primal or Instinct Raw.

My cats are super-fussy and won't go for any raw diet with additives...so I have to source just whole ground rabbit for them (if chicken I go get chicken pieces from Costco in bulk and grind away) and then I add baby oatmeal and Mazuri supplements and they are happy.

My cats have been okay in the past with Oma's Pride and Halshan. Right now I source rabbit from WholeFoods4Pets and ExcelPetPantry...

My cats eat Primal rabbit and venison. Nyah won't eat raw poultry, Kovu seems to eat anything we put in front of his little baby kitty face! We just placed an order through Hare Today which arrives Wednesday as that seems to be a bit more cost effective. Nyah is Princess Picky Pants, so hopefully she eats it!

The organ meat should make up only about 10% of the diet. Yes too much fat from
Skin and organ meat will cause diarrhea. I would presume its all from the organ meat, but if its skin, you can add a bit of digestive enzyme to help them tolerate the fat better. If you can find a ground product without any fruits or veggies as they don't need it. The bone is important as they get the Ca from that. Heart is not an organ but a muscle meat, they might be able to tolerate more of that than organs.

Skin might cause diarrhea because that's where the majority of surface bacteria is. However, cat's have higher tolerances to bacteria. Freezing your raw food for 3 days will eliminate any harmful pathogens to cats. Unless your cat has weight problems, I don't think removing the skin is necessary. Organ meat in excess will cause diarrhea, but not by itself. Where did you get the 10% from? Most resources I have found recommend 20-30%.

The heart is an organ, but it's made up of a combination of cardiac and smooth muscle tissue. Smooth muscle tissue is mostly found in organs and blood vessels. Regular meat is mostly skeletal muscle. Did you mean that heart shouldn't be considered in the make up of the organ meat percentage? If that is the case, then 10% seems closer to to the organ percentages I have been finding.

Freezing does NOT kill all pathogens, the freeze/thaw cycle can reduce the numbers of bacteria overall, but it doesn't sterilize the meat. So it is a good thing to do with raw meat but doesn't do quite that much.

Thank you for clearing that up. I didn't mean it would sterilize the food, but it will kill or reduce anything significantly harmful to your cat long it enough to feed your kitty before whatever it is multiplies to harmful levels again.

I've heard many say it kills all bacteria, and I think it dangerous to assume that...that's why I commented. It's a beneficial process just not a cure-all :)

Hi,
I follow Dr. Lew Olson Raw and Natural Nutrition. According to Dr. Olson The skin is a fat source so too much causes diarrhea, the heart is put in the muscle meat, alot buy whole beef or pork heart and grind it and feed it like ground beef. It is richer than ground beef so it is animal dependent on how much they can handle. Gizzards are also categorized as muscle meat. Organs are kidney or liver and make up 10% of the ration. It is also recommended in order to help determine proper ca:p ratio is to feed one meal of raw meaty bone and other meal with ground meat and organ. As feeding raw is balance over time, it is a guideline. I also add in goat milk, yogurt, fish oil and have multiple protein sources for variety of amino acids.
