Is Growling Dominance?

Wow, Pam, that is scary!!! thank goodness for your cats...I bet they scared the heck out of whomever was there...I know taj and Zuri run to the door when they hear a sound...they always hear everything way before I do.

Paige, you have no idea how scared I was! I wonder if they would have attacked if someone did get in...thank God the door was double locked! Both girls got extra loving from me :)

That is a try scary thought, pam. But you have guard cats ;) I bet whoever it was would have been in for a whipping from your cats...seriously, it is great you have double door locks. I have an alarm system and live in a community, so feel a bit safer, but one can never get too complacent.

My town is fairly safe...but we do have a history of thieves who look for unlocked doors, sneak in and grab purses, laptops, whatever they can fit in a backpack etc and run. Still scary and I don't want them in my house...an alarm is in the near future.

I would have been scared for sure...and I don't blame you...I wouldn't want anyone in my house, stealing my stuff...

Stuff can be replaced. I really worry that one of the cats would get out, or someone might stuff one in their bag and take them...that's the scariest thing I can imagine

and that is the one worry I have...I don't care about my stuff...I just don't want anyone breaking into my house - period...but all I can think of is if someone tried to take either Taj or Zuri...I can tell you right now, they would not get far...

I get the impression that most of our cats will growl when they have gotten hold of something they want to keep! Toy, food, it-grrr-is-grrrr-miiiiiine-grrrrrr. And it works, most of the others do not challenge. But I can pick up and cuddle a growler anytime, and the response is always a "ahhh! Who´s going to believe me after this?" and when I put them down again the growling continues IF they still have whatever it was. I don´t believe it´s dominant, more of a "don´t disturb" sign. Have a look at lions feeding (on Animal Planet or such, don´t go to close in nature or you won´t hear) and you see the same behaviour. Nobody picks them up for a cuddle though, ´least not while eating!

This is true, per...I don't know about an F1 or F2 though, so cannot speak to that.

One night, my F7 SBT and the DSH girls were growling at the door and window, hackles raised. I called the police when I heard stealthy footsteps on the front porch and the door latch being jiggled, as this was late at night...no one was found, but this is the kind of growling I will take anyday! Who needs a dog when I've got watchcats lol
That's great Pam, they are definitely as good (or better) than watch dogs!!
