Short update,,,,,,,,,took Jax to the vet today. Doing good,,,got a distemper shot. I have to say that the little monster was a perfect gentleman. Could not believe it! He treated the vet and tech better than me. Never hissed at them once. Wish I could say that! Lol! He made up for it this afternoon
Got a 2 hour play and pet session. He's coming along,,,slow but sure. ;)

I'm so glad all went well at the vet, he is a good little guy! Even when he wakes you in the middle of the night to play... ;)

Been two steps forward and one back. Then one forward and two back. He's really hard to figure. We went ahead and gave him access to the whole master bedroom last night. Under the bed he went. We can coax him out with play and he plays so hard that he pants. We can pet him during play and he really seems to like it. Soon as play is over it's back to run and hide when we enter the room with an additional hiss or two for good measure! Lol! We've been giving him a little bit of space thinking that maybe we're pushing to hard. We go in one at a time for feeding and three times a day for an hour or so of play. We are sleeping there of course and he runs and plays at different times through the night. Doesn't seem to mind us unless we try to interact with him. It's really strange as when we pet him, he stretches and closes his eyes and really seems relaxed. So I think a little space is what he needs. Any suggestions from you folks would be welcome. Bob

Hi Bob, I only have experience of Kitoko so am very new to Savannah's. It sounds as though she was behaving in a very similar way to how Jax is now. Play definitely built her confidence and it was the only time I was able to touch her and only then if she was distracted and didn't really realise what I was doing! Even now it is only through play, or when she is close to my other cats, or very tired! that she tolerates being touched. I shared a room with her at first and she was the same as Jax - happy to play and explore during the night but would hide if I got up for any reason and disturbed her. I think I have a little girl that won't ever really like being touched but I think Jax will be fine given time. Kitoko has stopped hissing at me entirely but it's taken two months - not long in the scale of things. I am sure the experienced owners will have some tips for you but for what it's worth just relax and let him find his way and enjoy him. :big grin:

FWIW Atticus did the same thing -- hiding under the bed every time one of us entered the room. But as soon as he heard our voices, he would run out and greet us hissing while rubbing our legs at the same time. You have just expanded his world again by letting him into the bedroom so he needs time to acclimate to that as well. He may be one of those kittens who is slow to get comfortable with new things. Patience -- he will come round.

Sounds like he is doing ok, Bob. No worries. He comes out and plays. That is a good sign. He is a bit confused...Strange place and strange people..... "but I like these people, but I am not sure of them, but they are nice, but are they gonna keep being nice, why are they wanting to touch me, but I like it when they touch me... I am so confused.."
As W.W. said, Patience. ;)
