I know that Elsa loves her Carrier, even though when it is time to go to the VET she knows to avoid it, but if you get him active in chasing a toy, just toss it into the carrier and close the door... Hate that tactic, but sometimes that is the only way... Trying to squeeze an upset cat into a carrier, Is like putting ketchup back in the bottle while still holding upside down :)

yea experience that yesterday with the carrier...its like they just know its vet time

Lol John! That doesn't work. You can't get him within 10 ft . of the carrier when he knows you want him there. He can be a vicious little s--t . The last time Zoey went in and he followed so they both got to go. Only problem was he had to stay. Lol. He won't have any part of it now. He learned.

They are smart little beings.... I know during the last 1/2 dozen trips to the vet for boarding that Elsa did not want to get into her carrier... and she knew exactly when.... A trick that I previously used, would not work a 2nd time.... I was beginning to run out of tricks... Luckily when she bites at me, she will not do any damage. She knows once I have my hand on her, Game over, and she submits... Before I catch her however... GAME ON!

Harbor Freight has great leather welding gloves for cheap. We put them on now and then and pet the cats so they don't associate them with evil events.

I can often set the carrier on end with the door open and later scoop Ziggy up and swing around and drop him in the carrier before he knows what I'm up to. Sometimes covering his eyes with a hand. Sometimes head first, sometimes back feet first. Whatever works. Then there's the times I'm out of time and he's on to me...

On those occasions I've put Ziggy in his walking jacket and fastened the seat belt through the handle of the leash and clipped close on the jacket. A towel on the seat helps if hairy car seats bother you. Back seat only, unless you can disable the passenger side airbag.

Thanks Chris. Thats the best advice yet. All the rest has good advice for a normal sv. . However, ,,,,,,, Jax is FAR from normal. When we try to get him in the carrier, ,he goes full blown FERAL! It's really strange because he's only like that when you try to pick him up. The rest of the time he is a love bug. Head butts and rubbing against your legs. Sleeps with us every night. He's just one of those skidish little guys. We love him to death. He is SO smart it's scary. We did get him to the vet today and it about broke my heart to leave him. He was in his cage just trembling like crazy. Doc said that he was going to wait till tomorrow to do his surgery to give him a chance to settle down. I'll give an update sometime tomorrow.

Chris, I am now picturing you with the full outfit - welder's gloves, leather apron and helmet - saying "Here Kitty Kitty"! :p

I don't think I understand your vet's reasoning - how does he think prolonging Jax's visit to the vet's office - a very scary place with strange people, barking dogs, screaming cats, etc. can be good for Jax's stress level?!
