Jackson"s Long Road Home

Both my two Savannahs take between 8 and 24 hours to recover from anesthesia and sedation. Ziggy (F2) was especially disoriented and fortunately he let me hold him for hours--he would struggle, but then give up and settle down for a while...

Jax, my mutt of a cat, shrugged it all off very quickly and was basically back to normal by the time we got him home.

Tomorrow will be much improved!

I'm starting to worry a little. I think he is REALLY pissed at me. He is drinking water and eating. He spends all his time in the hiddie hole in his cat tree. When he does come out to use the litter box or eat he will go by Rhonda and give her a nice rub and let her pet him a little. Then he walks by me and gives me the STINK EYE! I try to talk to him and I get a hiss and a big growl for good measure. I guess that I'm back to step one. Don't know if my hearts in it. It took six months to get him remotely close to me. Think I'm going to give some space and see what happens. If he doesn't come around, so be it. Hope he's not going to be mad at me every time he goes to the vet. Guess time will tell.:(

Awww that's certainly not an outcome I'd expect -- him being mad at you for the neuter. Treat him the same, don't ignore him, talk to him, try to engage him in play and wait to see if he gets over the hissy fit. I think he will. Just don't completely disengage from him.

Tried to get him to come out of the cat tree after I got home from work. Used his favorite wand toy. Dangled in front of the hole and his face. He acted like it wasn't even there. When I tried to talk to him he let out a growl like I've never heard from him. He meant business! I can tell that he is still pretty sore but he does interact with Rhonda. Has zillch to do with me. I get the distinct vibe from him that given the opportunity, ,, he'd remove MY MARBLES in a heartbeat! Lol! Just tired Deb. It's just been a struggle with him from day one.

I know, hugs to you. But don't give up. I'm on year 5 of this dance with my Maliik. Each day we begin anew. Some days he tolerates me and others he acts like his spots will drop off if I touch him, look at him, or get within 1 foot of him. I do get more squinchy eye love than I do stink-eye these days, small consolation.

Well heck, what a bummer! I think it's okay to avoid any aggressive/assertive moves with him for now, but soon you should devise a plan where you become the sole provider. If you have to, quarantine him again, be the one to bring him food, play with him, sit with him, etc. He is being a brat but it sounds like he was really traumatized by his last adventure at the vets so probably needs a little grace right now - poor little guy :(

Sooo s uprising! Jax must have decided that I have paid enough! We got up this morning and low and behold we had a new Jax to greet us! Head butts, leg rubs squawking and talking! I'm in shock. He has lost a crap load of weight. Down to less than 10 pounds. You can feel his back bone and ribs. The good thing is that he is eating every thing in site! We are very very relievedtri wink:
