The worst claw marks I ever do get are the ones on my wrist. If I carry them under one arm and go to set them down, the bigger ones will sometimes launch prematurely using my wrist as support where the skin is more delicate. I rarely ever get significant scratches elsewhere. Mukee rides my shoulder and she is very careful as long as I keep her claws trimmed. I don't find Savannahs use claws out for anything unless they are suddenly frightened.

I noticed that too that mine doesn't use his claws when he plays and taps at the dog etc. but I made the mistake once of trying to carry him in one hand and his bowl of raw food in the other and got a real nice gash on my wrist just like you explained Kelly.

Thats a great thing to know! I will try not to scare the animals that can cut me ;)

Ouch! Do your kitties ever apologize for scratching? :)

Haha. I'm sure he didnt even realize he got me! He was totally focused on beating me to his room to get his dinner when he launched! It's a daily race but I'm not usually carrying him there.

Shyla is actually real good with her claws, as well. She used to use them quite a bit....but mainly for climbing on furniture and what not. I have a few scratches from her, but nothing that she had done on purpose....just the one time she had a walking jacket on and somehow got her paw stuck in it(trying to get it off, of course), and I tried to help her.....but she went a bit crazy and scratched my palm of my hand! OUCH...it hurt sooooooo bad and I was bleeding like a pig! I think she felt bad after that though:eek:, because it WAS an accident...lol She's never scratched my kids though, and the 2 younger ones can be a bit rambunctious!! lol

Sorte
Sorte has been really good about using his claws in certain situations. The couple times I got hit by him he was either on a catnip high and just going nutty for a toy and once when a buddy was using his fly wand and accidentally got him to jump towards me, ending with him clinging to my leg for a sec. I let out a good howl on that one and he learned. Now when he's flying through the air towards someone, he just uses his back legs to bounce off, no claws needed. :) He even rabbit kicks my arm when playing a little tug of war on his back and he is very careful not to use claws.

gosh no, I don't notice any difference with Keljin at least compared to my past cats. Whenever he jumps on my lap when I'm on the computer, its always with claws out :( But he is great at controlling it with playtime. With Winry, myself, even with fish in the tub, claws were retracted. He knows to be gentle when he is playing, its just when he is jumping and flying that he feels he NEEDS to have them out. At this point now I just make sure not to have bare legs when on the computer otherwise I always get all scratched up!

Sooo just wondering, do you think that savannahs are better when it comes to claw control than other cats? I know my cats in the past were terrible: no matter what they did, they did it claws out! I know all cats will inevitably give you a nick here and there, but is it something you guys notice at all with your cats? Are some of your SV's better about claw control than others??
the soft paws are always an option. Will warn you though, you will need to replace all or a few weekly. They are a pain in the butt to keep up with especially if you have someone who doesn't like their paws messed with.

Out of my 6, I only have 1 that is polite with his claws and he's a Bengal. My azul got me earlier and I tout I got sliced by a razor blade. She's bad about it and I'm not able to clip her claws..
