D doesn't "walk" so much as meander. He will go nice and straight and reasonably fast for 100 feet or so, and then we need to stop/sniff/change direction/roll around on the ground. He will move more quickly if we are running. We have started going to the local track and running around it. He gets 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile, and seems to enjoy it. He is quick.
Outside of that, he goes at his own pace. Even carrying around a toy or food doesn't necessarily get him to move "forwards" in the desired direction. I've stopped worrying about it, and accepted that our walks will meander, go back and forth, and involve frequent stops & rolls on the ground.

And Kristen, nice to see you hun :)

He is quick.

They are very quick. Oni, an F6 and 8.5 lbs, has a normal cat shape (no super long legs), and, when she gallops I'm hard pressed to keep up. Ziggy, an F2 and 13 lbs, 15" at the shoulder, I've not had any where up to speed yet. He's still trotting at probably 3/4 of my max speed.

Now, I'm old, overweight, and, even when I was running 6.5 miles a day, not very fast. But still, it's embarrassing to be tied by an animal that comes to mid calf...and to know I couldn't come close to keeping up with Ziggy, even if we were being chased by a grizzly!

Reading everyones comments shows me that Thor is pretty good at walking then, he does stop a lot, but eventually he will keep moving, plus he is only 4 mnths old. He barely bites his leash, and doesnt mind his harness at all. Ill just keep going slow, and in the car, his leash is attached and wrapped around the headrest. He is unable to go on my side, and is trained not to. he is never allowed past the center console, and its not usually for far distances.

Yes, Thor is way better than either of mine! Can anyone post pics of their car ride setup for kitties?

We did some leash over the weekend with Biz/Wigs and he did pretty good. The running is rough though. Jengo will never be leash trained, too skittish. He only goes in harness when he's at the vet so we can better control his flight patterns. That only sets a bad precedent for the harness. I may get him a jacket instead and train with that or try to.

Sounds like good progress...

Lots of great information on this thread! Loving it.

I just have a quick question, can anyone recommend which leash to buy? I Have a SV f4 not sure if that matters, but I would like to try to get him use to the leash as soon as possible.

I love my animals and take them everywhere with me, so it would be nice to be able to walk my tiggy on a leash.

Thanks!

Do you mean walking jacket? One of our sponsors makes custom walking jackets...you can click on the banner ad at the top of this forum to get to the Kasbah boutique...there is also joykatz walking jackets, hyendry and others...or...you can go to petco and buy a puppy walking jacket...I uses those now as well...
