Leash walking and outdoor bathroom habits

Please share how you trained them!!! That is just the coolest thing ever.

Their habit is to use the litter box about 20 minutes after a meal so I just took them outside around that time. I prefer they don't go during a walk -- even though they go in the gutter, neighbors aren't pleased when a cat pees anywhere near their property. There is one spot on the front lawn where they go and it has just become habit for them to do that when we go out for a walk.

I found that my adult intact girls would mark the same trees my beagle would lift his leg on....but don't think it was peeing as a #1 as much as marking behavior. They'd follow the beagle and just spray wherever he peed. It used to be funny to watch. But any altered cats I've walked with him haven't done that...

Im thinking of another cat for my savannah to play with he gets so bored. I have a mint of toys for him I try to give him play time, but he is bored still. Im thinking of walking him on a leash in the yard but concerned about him getting worms and fleas ect, When I got him he was DE-clawed so I also have that to worry about if he needs to defend himself or get away from danger. also dogs in the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When mine were kittens they would never potty while on leash. They do now. I trained them to walk in the gutter of the street so if they have to go #1 it just runs down to the nearest sewer and it makes picking up #2 easier. No messes on the sidewalk or on neighbors' property.

That's great to hear! I see a lot of dog walkers who let their pets go on everyone's yard in the neighborhood. Some are courteous, and pick it up, but on occasion, I have to go out and ask them not to use my yard. If I wanted dog in my yard, I'd own a dog.

Razi used to pee outside when I lived in Coarsegold and took him for hikes. He liked to pee in the streams. He doesn't do it here in the city.

Juba is a water pee-er too. First day I brought him home I found him balancing on his water dish and dipping his behind in it while looking at the litter box. Definitely a conflict going on there. To my surprise, he finally chose the litter box. But when we're outside, if there's a puddle or water running in the gutter, that's where he chooses to go.

Outside is forbidden, I would love to leash walk but they lack the same confidence as my SV. In Santa Barbara, it's a flea/tick capitol because of the perpetual humidity in the first mile up and down the coast with temperate sun/overcast swings.

The first week home, I was soaking a pot used to boil pasta in and left this in the sink, which was used as the toliet. Imagine my surprise forgetting to wash this that night to the strong smell of urine mixed in. That's when my learning started, actually!
