What he is doing is standing when he used to squat. The little is pine. No clay allowed in this house.
With clay we had it all over the place and my breeder would not let me have Bella till I switched
and the boys seemed to like it much better.
With Mokkun is not that is not in the box because he is. It's the standing at one side and going right
over the far edge. he has some flow behind that stream. The box is one of the jumbo type but the
sides are low unlike the totes. Bella stands with back feet in the box and front ones on the edge and
goes into the box and Tetsu just gets in the box and does his business. So maybe I'll try a deep box
and see how that goes over.

Very curious why such a negative against clay?

Damp paws pick it up and then kitty licks it. Plus it tracks more than the pine does.
It was like a dust bowl in the utility room. The the last reason. Weight and my back.
I still have lifting restrictions.

We were using the 30 gallon Sterilite totes which worked great. No issues with tracking as we had a litter matte surrounding it and never wet paws as the litter was always 4" deep or more to suspend urine balls. Our stand up corner pee'r had become more comfortable squatting in the center of the box which was a relief as I no longer had to wipe down the sides of the box when scooping.

We were using Dr Elsey's Cat Attract Litter exclusively, 2-40# bags per box so as all the urine balls were suspended. Suspended urine balls means that when you scoop you aren't leaving urine behind and only removing soiled litter. The advantage is that you really never need to change litter, just add to it as you aren't scraping things off the bottom of the box and with the litter lifter scoops you aren't shaking and shoveling litter to find the gems.

We use clear tubs similar to what Pam and Will uses with no cut outs. We also started adding more litter and bought litter lifter scoops as suggested by John Popp and it has made it so much easier. Never have ours knocked the tubs over but I'm sure the weight of the litter helps plus they hop in and out. I rarely see them touch the edges.

I use a clear tub as well. I couldn't find the litter lifter scoop in stores, and didn't want to order one online (the whole shipping and handling thing). I found one in Ottawa.....I was waaaaay too excited. Best litter scooper ever!
