Litter Boxes

Lori, can you give the dims (or link) of your box please? I don't like the RubberMaid box for the same reasons you state above. However, every litter box I've seen (other than the KatKave or top opening ones) are too low in height. I need it to be at least 14-1/4" high because Dash has the elevator butt some times when he pees. The one I got from e-bay is too expensive and heavy, otherwise a perfect litter box. It's HUGE!

I want to replace my RubberMaid one with something different but don't want to spend this much money for another KatKave.
Thanks

They aren't quite that tall, actually only half that. I get them at Tractor Supply.

When I looked at Tractor Supply (on line), it didn't look like they had one as tall. Guess I'm going to have to stick with the RubberMaid ones after all. I'm going to check out Wal-Mart because it looked like they had some nice ones there for not too much money. I just wish they'd make one with a smooth bottom that was tall enough. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one. Don't want another one quite as large as the KatKave. It's very heavy and a little bigger length and width than I need. Thanks anyways Lori

Are there any hooded litter pan sets that a large cat will fit in? I have been looking every where but everything seems so small and out kitty seems so big! We had a small hooded litter pan and immediately that was too small so we got a storage bin from Lowe's and that works fine but we want to move the litter into a small bathroom.

I don't use hooded litter pans for that reason, they are a bit too cramped if your cat is more than a petite sized kitty. Feline behavior therapists will tell you that hooded litterboxes are one of their top causes of cats not using the litterbox, so just be aware of this...if your cat continues to grow and starts peeing elsewhere you might first try taking the lid off the box and see if it resolves. This happened to us with our very first Savannah, an F2 male. He started peeing on clothes etc, and I was going crazy when I noticed him trying to use the box and how very cramped he was in there...no wonder he was having a tantrum and peeing outside the box. I took the hood off and he was perfect after that. He does tend to sit almost upright when peeing too so that added to the cramping issue!

You can also find litterbox furniture online that does the same thing as the hoods do but give a little more room for the kitty while hiding the litterbox from view...something like this:

Yes, I don't use them either per se, but for some reason Zuri and Cisco like this clever cat...

I tried the Clever Cat once, I liked the opening at the top and thought it might work but none of mine seemed to like it...so ended up using it without the lid. I think it a better concept than a lot as they could at least stretch their head up out of the top if taller...

I find the storage bins work the best, and are the least expensive litter boxes available.

But..they also use the storage bin litter box I cut the little door in ;) The clever cat could be longer though...
