Ok, thanks guys. And by the way, this is a picture of two of my last three babies. Gucci the Manx and Kitty the rabbit, she was also trained, cat box garage kitty door etc. and never caged. The cats did not attack her, they all chased each other around. And the rabbit never left Gucci's side. So no grinding rabbits!:) image.jpg image.jpg

I've had rabbit pets in the past...but I guess I am enough of a country girl to still be able to grind rabbit meat... but then the rabbit comes dressed (skinned, gutted and no head) so doesn't so much resemble their furry past. Hare Today did once send rabbit pieces that included the head and I was too squeamish for that... and I am too squeamish to feed my cats mice and chicks... we all have our limits on what we can do for our pets!

CC has always loved exotic animals. Two weeks after we started dating, his mom's house caught on fire. He begged the firemen to let him back into the house to save his Burmese python. The firemen wouldn't do it. CC wasn't about to let his snake burn up. He ran in and rescued it, landing his picture on the front page of the local newspaper. I guess there's nothing I've found yet that he wouldn't do for his pets, and we've been together for 24 years now!

Don't get me wrong, I have had rabbit as an entree', my dad actually took my pet rabbits 13 babies, when they were big enough, and ripped their little heads and skins off, cut them up and put them in the freezer for dinners. It was horrible, but tastes like CHICKEN:)' anyway, not something I would do myself for. I don't think my little guys need to hunt and kill live prey. They can hunt and kill all the toys they want :):)

It's amazing what parents will do sometimes; not thinking of the impact it will leave on their children for the rest of their lives. I'm so sorry you had to lose your beloved bunnies that way, and can see why you're so against using rabbits as an entree. There was a point in time when one of CC's snakes needed something bigger than mice to eat, and he brought home a bunny. CC never fed the snake live food, as he thought it was inhumane to the intended dinner. My children and I had a fit anyway, and that's how they ended up with bunnies as pets. We ended up raising rats in our garage because the pet store never seemed to carry enough "feeders" when we needed them. I remember sitting in a chair, tending to a mother struggling to give birth. Tears were rolling down my face when I realized she wasn't going to make it. There was another litter that had an adorable runt in it. I fell in love with him, and named him Niblet. I told CC that if Niblet ended up as dinner, there would be heck to pay. Niblet grew up to be quite huge. We sold the snake and all the rats not too long after that. It was a relief, because I always had a fear of snakes, although I gotta say, the colors on our boa were spectacular. Her underbelly reminded me of pumpkin pie spice :)

Ya see, I understand the live feed for snakes, not that I would ever own a pet that had to be live fed, but our cats aren't in the wild, they won't starve themselves to death if not given live feed. Sorry if I offend anyone, but, I personally feel there is absolutely no need for live feed when it comes to Savannah's.
That is unless you happen to have an infestation of unwanted critters in your home.

I couldn't do the live feeding thing either. We all have our limits... I can't even watch nature shows where they show a wild animal going in for a kill. Yet I grew up eating meat we raised, just they were killed humanely.... not sure I could watch the cat-and-mouse thing without needing to save the mouse. I think though that most that feed whole prey to their cats it is dead prey just whole chicks and mice...

My dad did the same with my bunnies.
From the start i know they were meant for food but i played with them anyway and gave them names.
I was a sad moment when they got killed, i didn't look.
But it was oke cause i knew from the very beginning. i waved them all goodbye.
Hearing me say it, it sound really really sad.

Anyways are there people who give their savannah life food ?
Is it in anyway good ?
Dunno if i could do it, but the cats would love it.

Yes, there are some people that give their cats live food. It's not bad for the cats, but also not really nessesary. It's entirely up to you if this is something you want to do.
