Do you mean listed on www.savannahcat.com , Paige? Looks like there is an extra "s" in that link you wrote?

I agree, that's a lot of excuses...but we go with what we are comfortable with. If you ask questions and are happy with the answers that is fine, but if the answers raise red flags it seems a better idea to look for an alternative.

As Paige says, most breeders on this forum prioritize socialization. I would likely say HEALTH is my first priority as nobody wants a sickly kitten, then TEMPERAMENT so I have selected cats that test healthy (for example I do cardiac ultrasounds to try to avoid the number one killer of cats after car accidents) and are happy, social kitties and then I spend a lot of time with kittens...and then lastly I consider LOOKS, which are important to our breed but the first two criteria need to be satisfied first.

I'm cautious about home visits, my kitties are precious to me. I need to have had some conversations with a potential buyer, know that a Savannah is right for them AND that I will have a kitten for them...and then try to arrange a visit when my husband is home.

Oops, yes, Brigitte...and I do agree that health actually comes first...then temperament and socialization...

Just wanted to bring that up, as in Rescue the number of times we get contacted by disappointed owners that rushed in and bought a kitten that came to them sickly... it can ruin the joyful experience of a new kitten :-(

Well...socializing is a priority for me as well as most breeders listed on this website. Also, look and see if AAA savannahs is listed on savannahcat.com...sounds like a lot of excuses to me..that's all I will say on this.

Also...many of us DO NOT allow visitors...we do not want our savannah kittens and/or savannah adult cats exposed to disease...paul may have been robbed and I don't blame him for not allowing visitors. Many breeders do allow you to come and pick up the kitten in person, though.

Yes he is on that site. That's actually how i found his site.

Well that's good to know about other breeders not letting people over. When i got my Bengals i got to see the entire Cattery so i didn't know that it was common not to let people over.

Anyways i work in IT and i sent him instructions on how to get the hard drive up and running. we'll see if he comes through with the pics.

Amen, Paige. I don't allow visitors to traipse in and out of my home and expose my litters to anything under the sun- but that's my prerogative ("I can do what I want to do" LOL). And socializing is a priority for ANY reputable breeder.

Breeding Savannahs for the Home
I think that there are very few breeders that will let people in just to look at the cats/kittens. I don't let anyone in unless they have put a deposit down.

I have to say… I just had a very frustrating experience with Paul. I too had sensed some dodgy seller behavior that would normally tell me to get out of there, but when I googled him and found this board, my nerves were calmed a bit. I was perhaps overly lenient/ understanding of his dodgy behavior because of his potentiao health problems. In any case, we tried to work through paypal but he kept saying he could not get access or release the funds… So he asked me to send the payment to another paypal account. I naively did, but again, he said Paypal wasn’t letting him release the funds. By this time I felt something weird was up, so I decided to back out of the transaction. Unfortunately, he also said he could not issue refunds for some reason… long story short, I have had to escalate both cases to Paypal claims (which is taking a painfully long time). I know paypal can be a bit tricky, but what is perhaps more frustrating is that during this time of correspondence, he never changed the “Available” status of my kitten, and just yesterday he had actually put up an updated picture and increased the price. So, I can’t tell if the Paypal struggle was real or not on his end, or if he had just changed his mind about selling the kitten to me and wanted me to get out of the deal.

In any case, just a small warning for those who, like me, were iffy about his seller behavior, googled him, and found this board— While I am not really going to say Don’t deal with Paul because obviously he is a known breeder and produces some gorgeous Savannahs, my warning here is to 1) Avoid Paypal when working with him, and 2) Be very firm and ask for a contract of sorts. I realize there were a lot of mistakes made on my end as a naïve and overly eager /trusting buyer, and Paul may not hvae had intentions to have this end result, but I thought I’d just share this experience for others…

I am not going to comment just yet, but ask you to identify yourself a bit more by changing your profile to either male or female...
