My 2 year old is terrified of our new kitten.

See if you can get your daughter to play with Callie with a wand toy - a safe interaction, and she can see how her actions can get a positive reaction from Callie.

My kids played with her and she even got on the bed and no one freaked out! Here's a picture I took of her just now

LOL, sometimes we forget how resilient children are - so glad to hear everyone is getting along now! I'm sure Callie never noticed the difference - she sure is adorable in that pic!!

My son is a bit older (5), but we recently went through this after he got scratched by our savannah. I waited until Schrodinger was chilled out and called a ''family meeting ''. During which I told my son that Schrodinger didn't mean to hurt him and we talked about ways we can avoid scratches in the future. Then I had him pet Schrodinger while he was in my lap. And I had him talk to Schrodinger about what he felt. It may sound crazy, but it helped him. He still gets a bit scared if he walks in on Schrodinger and the Russian blue rough housing, but, my son and Schrodinger sleep together almost every night and Schrodinger puts up with my son walking around the house carrying him.

I think accidents are unavoidable. I can't remember my son ever getting freaked out by a cat or dog injury, but he was raised with animals from birth, and I think is pretty intuitive when it comes to reading their actions and intent. Then again, I always downplayed any injury and tried to teach him to roll with the punches.

I would think scratches etc are unavoidable... but the love and companionship the child gets from a pet makes it all worthwhile. At least I'm hoping so with Lola coming soon :)

I agree. I think it's just a matter of teaching them how to interact with one another and such. Clayton and Schrodinger are near inseparable when it's bedtime especially.
