My F5 Savannah won't eat

We try to. We usually give her different types of meat during the day, and an occaisional cheese treat (she loves cheese). I'm going to try to run a mix of her kibble in with a batch of hamburger through the meat grinder and see how that goes. but again, she's very picky and really prefers the unadalterated red meats.

Maybe I am wrong, but,,,,,your girl may be one of those that does not like or will not do well on a raw diet. Go out and get her some good canned foods and offer them;>)

Here is the thing....she needs taurine and lots of other nutrients that meat does not provide...so some kind of tasteless supplement like perhaps Mazuri will be helpful.
Agreed, Paige, just raw muscle meat will not deliver everything she needs. I've had the most success with the Mazuri supplements as mine hated the taste of a lot of other ones before I tried that (I think it was Sue Armstrong that suggested Mazuri to me)... start with a tiny bit added and then increase to the recommended amount over time and it should work. Long ago, Lorre Smith also said that adding a tablespoon of tomato juice to the supplements and meat can mask the taste of the supplements....could be worth a try?

Kelly - I know HL is not as typical with younger or normal weight cats, but I always raise a flag regarding feline anorexia. It's just too risky in my opinion, especially with the improved prognosis gained with early intervention. My girl wasn't overweight (a petite 6 lbs), and dropped over 25% of her body weight in under a week. She had stopped eating due to a negative reaction to a medication. I love my vet, but even he didn't consider HL until I practically screamed it. A classic "zebra among the horses" scenario. I'd learned about HL in vet class and it was the first and most obvious diagnosis in my partially educated mind. I will always punish myself for not having screamed louder and earlier, as a result of the vet's delayed intervention, she almost succumbed to DIC. Her coagulation profile was way off. It took a week of total parenteral nutrition with a nasoesophageal tube to get her stabilized.

I'm glad Jon's girl is doing better!

Cassy is eating normally again. I've run some hamburger and kitten kibble through the meat grinder and she seems to love it (still won't eat the kibble by itself.) She's also eating chunked chicken which she seems to like. She's back to her old self, running, jumping and chasing our 4 y.o. F2, Molly. Cassy turned 1 on July 4. She is gainning weight. I think we are out of the woods!

Now that I've got her on the hamburger/Kibble mix, I'll look into the Mazuri supplements. We,ve tried several different canned foods and she won't touch them, same with dry kibble. She will eat an occaisional can of tuna but seems to prefer hamburger/steak/chicken, sometimes she'll eat some fish but not often. Molly on the other hand (4 y.o. F2) loves her kibble but eats fish/shrimp as treats and won't touch hamburger/steak or chicken, at leats I don't have to worry about one eating the others food....
