My New Savannah Cat Enclosure

Paul B

yes, I am going to put it up the feeder today...and then go buy some geraniums since my neighbors tell me they attract hummingbirds ;)

Maybe I need to plant some geraniums in my yard... My neighbor has like 5-6 hummingbird feeders in his yard so my one doesn't get much attention. I get plenty of birds on the regular feeder though for Sorte to chirp/meow at. LOL!

You're kitties will be so happy!

OK, so the enclosure is up, but I have ordered 2 foot extensions to make it taller...right now it only has one shelf so i ordered a few more shelves as well. Will put a 3 foot cat tree in it for now...but we had our first mishap...I let Zuri and Taj out to come in the house and Zuri decided she would jump up on top of the enclosure, where I could not reach her...I almost had a heart attack, as she teetered on the edge, looking like she was going to jump off the deck, which is about 15 feet up from the parking lot...

So...I need to be more careful  I finally got her to come down with one of her toys...but it was very scary for a minute.

Boy, I would have a heart attack too in that situation! Glad you got your enclosure up for them though! :) And that you were able to convince Zuri to come back from the edge.

It definitely needs to be taller...4' is not very tall for cats used to being 8' off the floor...Taj was content with sitting on the shelf looking out but Zuri was hanging from the top of the enclosure and all kinds of crazy antics  So it will be 6' tall next week and will add some cat threes and other shelves for them...them if they don't like it - too bad...

Argh, I have to say I'm not surprised at all at Zuri's little adventure out there. Don't be surprised if she hangs off the ceiling of the six foot enclosure - I'm guessing it has nothing to do with how tall the enclosure is, but how vast the great 'wilderness' is beyond the enclosure.

I'm sure you are right, patti! I thought Taj would be the one to want to get higher, but he enjoyed sitting on the shelf looking out. Then of course, Zuri had to jump on the shelf with him and then she wasn't content with that either...so she had to hang from the top...I guess I can always get a cover for the top to discourage her...

Maybe try a hammock instead of a shelf at the top? Cats seem to love hammock and because it isn't sturdy makes it more difficult to stand up in and reach for the top...
