Nail caps for kittens

i start nail trimming by 2 weeks. most are very good, but a few...lots of grumbling, but no real resistance. i find it easier with those cats by waiting until they are napping.

Thanks all. I will start with the trimming. I've never had much of a problem doing that with past DSH or even my siamese cats. He will be 14wks when I get him.

One of my buyers used them, but she had a hard time maintaining them and just decided to invest in a few more sisal scratching posts.

Completely agree, some cats just will not be happy with their nails being touched. At a show a few weeks ago, I witnessed this with an altered Sphynx boy, there was no way and no how anyone would be able to touch his nails...his show career is over, I think, even his breeder agreed, with that reaction to nails, he needs to sit out the shows.

I use the caps on my two girls, they are the only ones that have the patience for me to put them on. I agree that they are a lot of upkeep and I tend to slack off on re applying them. Sometimes I'll find them missing some a few hours later (probably my fault for not applying enough glue) and sometimes they will stay on for up to two weeks. I wouldn't bother putting them on but they are the two my son targets as his favorites and he insists on trying to carry them around all the time. The girls don't seem to mind them once they have been on for a few moments. At first they do a foot flick with each step which is sort of funny to watch but they don't seem to notice them after that.

I need to figure out some kind of alternative for Nailah. We got her at 12 weeks and immediately attempted nail trimming. She HATES it. I had one successful attempt while she was napping but nothing since then. She screams and flails around so much that I'm terrified I will injure her if I continue to trim. I took her to the vet and it took 4 techs to hold her down to trim her nails. I was thinking of trying these nail caps but sounds like they are more of a hassle than actually trimming.

If she won't let me trim, maybe she'll at least let me paint them. j/k

Matajo is 14wks and it took me an entire day to get all of his nails clipped but I seem to be less scratched up. I have the caps but I think they will be even harder to get on him than clipping, so we'll see. If only they had caps for teeth :/

LOL on the painting, Rylie! have you tried giving a chicken treat or two after nail clipping? If you only do it every once in a while, they will probably not get used to it. I clip all ,y cats nails weekly and at first they don't like it, but they get used to it.

I alway trim his nails. It's best when he is napping and my partner holds his arms and pets him while I trim. He usually doesn't notice. If he does I give him a treat afterwards. We also have lots of places for him to scratch. 4 cardboard scratching boxes scattered throughout the house and a sisal one in the living room. I find some of the cats prefer the cardboard and the savannah prefers the sisal.
